StrawberryBlond 14,872
What does it mean by global chart? As in,every country or every country outwith the USA? I'm figuring it must mean the latter as I know some of these albums haven't sold as much/little as this in the US alone. But wow, only 8 out of the 40 albums are by females (i'm not counting soundtracks that feature female vocalists - it must be a solo female or an all-female group). I've said it before and I'll say it again, this is a serious issue that the music industry needs to deal with urgently. The lack of public faith in female artists is what is losing the industry more money than illegal downloading ever could. Legally or not, hardly anyone is buying female albums, it's the harsh reality. And what's the industry doing about it? Nothing. Females really don't seem to get promo these days. The males are selling as they're getting promo'd everywhere (and on the best primetime slots too), not because they're so much more talented or anything. So little of the bestsellers list make it onto my personal favourites every year and it makes me angry that so many great artists are being ignored due to the public's gender bias (men only want to listen to music by men and women only want to listen to music from men they find attractive) and s-xist labels being afraid to waste money on promoting a female who might not get anywhere.
