Eh, it's pretty good, but is it LEAD SINGLE material? Not really.

Actually the most strategic thing you can do as an artist is release a good "but weaker" lead single, and then HIT THEM HARD for the second. People get just enough interest to finally be hooked on the second single.

Take "Shake it off" which is meh and "Blank Space"

or "We Can't Stop" and "Wrecking Ball"

This song has been on repeat today, it's totally soothing and calming me :legend: I love the fact Janet isn't following the trend :legend:

It's what she did with janet. "that's the way love goes" says hi... I have high hopes that the album will have a couple more upbeat singles. I myself was dissapointed that the lead single wouldn't be a dance song but No Sleeep was very much a pleasant surprise.

Mer Girl

I'm surprised she made this the lead, only because typically the leads are fast paced and dancey, but I still dig it!  I'm extremely happy she's making a new album!

This isn't the first slow jam that she made as first single through her career.

If y'all a fan, you already knew this and keep the faith in her.

Please don't turn Janet into your another boring EDM try hards.

Not every artists have to go that way to be well liked.

This is a breathe of fresh air.

Enjoy it than b---h about it. :gaycat:

Disregard

This sounds more like the Janet that people really connected to, rather than the one who served a cute bop like Feedback, which the kids remember, but really didn't amount to much in the end. She gave us music that was part of the soundtrack to our lives with every album from 1986 and 2001. I'm looking forward to hearing more.

"As a grand return it’s one that seems to want to slink in almost unannounced, but that also simultaneously leaves it open for a big banger to follow" - the guardian.. I really hope this is what ends up happening

But slow R&B was a dominant trend and thus "generic" much longer than EDM pop, at least in the States. Mariah and Beyonce pretty much refused to move on from it already.

With Gaga doing jazz and Rihanna's R8 singles, it's pretty obvious the EDM trend is over, yet oddly people talk as if anyone doing a slow song is so brave and non-commercial.
