Delete 258
Let me SPILL SOME REAL TEA...You have generalized "Born This Way"'s concept into a stereotype based soely on its title. The record tells a legitimate story, (something that ARTPOP and TFM monster fail to do) and explores Gaga's journey to self acceptance. She starts the album from semi positive point of view, only to later find herself battling with an array of internal demons...ones that began to knock her down every time she tries to get back up. From there the album artistically represents her journey to happiness, and fighting against the darkness and negativity and insecurity that surrounds her. In the end, she is triumphant against her demons and finds true self loving. The imagery and music are best described by this quote, "There cannot be light without the darkness." PS: Before anyone jumps in on the comment I made regarding the TFM, I mean that TFM is a concept album not a story album. It's literally a collection of every fear she struggles with. Bradley 59,023
I think BTW's coherence is a little bit easier to see at first. Whereas ARTPOP has coherence, but it may take more than a couple listens to see that. Either way, both amazing albums and I'm glad OP brought this topic up as I myself have thought about this many times. Look at the negativity I generated. Rat Boy 43,481
Let just laugh for the next hour. I'm sorry but this post is rather immature and rude. Forums were made to facilitate discussion based around events and opinions. The OP brought some reasonable arguments to the table and you have no right or authority to discredit his ideas in such an insulting way. Please avoid engaging in such condescending behavior and be more considerate the next time you make a post. I personally believe that conceptually TFM was here most coherent album. All the songs dealt with themes such as fear and darkness. Like the OP said there some songs on BTW which I believe do not fit the album's title. Also, in regards to ARTPOP I think the concept was too broad and vague. "****ing rat" - @Dynamite
Quasi 10,923
Look at the negativity I generated. As long as you generated a discussion that you felt deserved some thought, you don't need to give a single sh*t about negativity. I enjoyed sharing my thought on the subject and I'm sure you and some other people have too. I don't understand pineapples, so I don't eat bananas. Yanko 9,860
First, I doubt Gaga loves Born This Way more than ARTPOP. Second, Gaga loves all her albums, in my introduction I expressed my love towards Born This Way and also specifically mentioned several songs which I love. However I also defended ARTPOP. You, however, commented "Stop trying to make ARTPOP sound deep". Wow, I can see Gaga agreeing to that. i didnt say she should agree? so i cant have an opinion if gaga disagrees with that? You can always have an opinion but you didn't have to sound rude and disrespectful. You know what, among all the people who disagreed with me, you're the most negative one.You have no sense of respect towards other people, like at all. Batwings 12,884
I wrote a really long, in-depth essay on BTW shortly after it was released. I definitely think it's a coherent, conceptual album if you pay attention to the progression of the songs. Long story short, I said that the album's "narrative" mirrored the medieval concept of the Dark Night of the Soul which was created by the mystic Saint John of the Cross who wrote a poem and treatise with that title. I don't think Gaga studied medieval theology and intentionally created the album in this way, but but if you study it closely, there are some interesting similarities. For a quick cut-and-dry explanation of the medieval text, see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Night_of_the_Soul

Wet Fire 7,413
I don't think so. Born This Way has so much coherance. Judas was more like a confession, not a betrayal song. She confessed so that she can 'come into light' (meaning that she's trying to move towards light from darkness). Government Hooker expresses her robust thoughts and confidence as a woman. Scheiße is a song about feminism (which is positive). You and I is a song about finding your true love, which doesn't not deviate from the themeof Born This Way the album. Bloody Mary is on the other hand even though very cpnfusing still expresses her strength. Electric Chapel is about finding a safe place to love, which can relate to the theme of the album. The album, overall, has various ways to come to light, leaving darkness behind. And about the album cover...Gaga said the motorcycle morphed with her upper body means that she's a vehicle for the voice of her fans. That's not dark...rather positive.
