The creator of the Exorcist called the Babadook the scariest film he's ever seen

Laughing So Hard , it was cute and I am being honest (not trying to hide any fear) watch the ending and you will know why.

at the time it was released it was the scariest thing ever

but now it looks a bit basic, lol

Because the demon possession has been repeated so many times after The Exorcist that it is basically the norm now :rip:

I thought the Babadook was a boring failure when I saw it. I was totally disappointed.

paranormal activity one is the scariest i've ever seen. that type of film just works on me for some reason :emma:  loved that movie

well actually chucky was but only because i was like 5 years old or something.

i saw the exorcist when it was re-released and i was like 11 years old or something and it was creepy but it wasnt the scariest for me. i imagine if it was the 70s though it would be absolutely terrifying aspeially since people were probably more religious at that time

it really sucks that horror films have become so basic these days and now we dont get the same kind of scare from them that people in the 70s did. they had better horror films because it was all still new to them. they were able to have more impact and today we just dont have that. insidious and everything just kind of makes me chuckle :\. the conjuring was ok i guess

I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it.

idk probably when it came out it was scary for it's time, because I remember watching it few months ago and I laughed my ass off the whole time

and as a horror fan I think that in general possessed people, demons and ghots or the supernatural part of the horror films is not scary at all and it only relays on jump scares .... I personally prefer the realistic horror that doesn't have the supernatural effect like I Know What You Did Last Summer, Saw, Friday 13th etc. I find it way more interesting and scary

It's much more fun to have hizophrenia... u never get lonely

The problem is: with horror movies (or I'd dare to say, movies in general), every time a formula is successful, they tend to make 23411234 sequels and movies with the same type of plot. Hence The Exorcist and the hundreds of movies about exorcism, Chucky and the movies about possessed objects, I Know What You Did Last Summer and the trash movies about serial killers, Paranormal Activity and Final Destination 1, 2, 3, 4...

Bad Bromance

It was terrifying when I watched it at 6 years old but as I got older and learned more about the film and read the book I began to love it and become fascinated with it. It's one of my favorite horror films of all time. Linda Blair killed it and she should have gotten an oscar for it. The acting was realistic and eye catching in certain scenes. I also started to notice that people that claim to think its funny are actually deep down terrified of it but they laugh it off to hide their fear. I'm certainly not a religious person but I can certainly sense in-denial fear and many people pretend to not be afraid of this film and mask their feelings with laughter. Overall I love the film but the second film was pretty terrible.

IKR???  I can't believe Linda Blair didn't win an Oscar for her outstanding performance of Regan MacNeil!!  On point, though, IMO The Exorcist is in fact the scariest movie of all time.  This movie plays mind games with you, or at least it did with me and really messed me up for several years.  There were times when I couldn't sleep at night because I had visions of the exorcism that took place in Regan's bedroom towards the end of the movie.

One of the reasons why I believe it scared the living day out of me is because the movie is based on a true story.  Being Catholic, we hear about demonic possessions from time to time and it truly scares me to think this actually happened in the U.S.  In real life, however, it happened to a boy, not a girl.

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.

The Grudge 1 & 2 were actually very good horror movies in my mind. A sense of something  unexpected would keep you on the edge of your seat.

You are all saying it isn't, but back then it most certainly was.

Spiritual/demonic films weren't the norm back then and it was the first of its kind. People who seen it went to bed holding crucifixes it was that scary!

In my messy era.
