This really sucks. DH may be the best song on the album, but that doesn't mean it deserves to be a hit. It's ok, but it's still pretty cringey as Katy simply cannot pull off an urban style. I'm pretty bummed out that my prediction to make this an official single was wrong (I'd said it had already sold over 700k in the US as a promo single, so it surely wasn't going to do much better down the line). I simply don't understand why its started blowing up. Its had no promo, no video, nothing. How come its been #1 on iTunes for a week when it fell out the top ten months ago as a promo single? It makes no sense. Above all, Katy hasn't earned this hit. Throughout her TD era, she just had to sit back and watch the success flow to her. She didn't even need promo to get those songs to shift copies and for radio to play them. Whenever it looked like a single wasn't going to #1, Capitol released a remix and all was right again. Roar was an inevitable #1 long before it was even released. That AMA performance was like, the only US promo she did with it too. It didn't even need rent a rapper. Unconditionally was the first time since Thinking Of You that her run of good luck hit a brick wall and she had to actually work hard to get some sort of a hit...and for once, she didn't get it. Just as she's finally starting to learn what working hard in the business actually means, America saves her ass once again by getting her another hit she didn't have to work for. Meanwhile, other much more talented artists with credibilty are out there killing themselves on every promo slot they can to make their single a success and it isn't happening.

Oh, well, the only consolations I have from all of this is that DH will unlikely take off overseas. It had its time to shine as a promo single and it can't be picked up on again. It could re-enter the charts, of course, but won't acheive a new peak. Unconditionally ended the party overseas for her and it's going to be too hard to come back from. And this has to be the sign that Katy's career will slowly start to fade after this. Gaga had three mega successful albums in a row too (I regard TFM as her second album and BTW was a success, deal with it) and now she's hitting some severe career turbulance. Pop stars, no matter how talented, go through this and it's usually album #4 (Shakira had Oral Fijacion Vol 1, Nelly Furtado had Mi Plan, Rihanna had Rated R, Christina had Bionic, Beyonce had 4, JLS had Evolution, Gaga has ARTPOP). I don't know why, but this album number really plagues pop artists. I'm sure Katy will be no different. She's simply had too much success too soon to maintain it. If the public gets too into an artist, they tend to drop them just as fast.

Katy is like one era behind gagz. It's similar to Gaga's BTW era. First single goes #1, second single breaks the top 20, and the third makes the top 5.

Good, Katy can be the Princess of Pop for them.....just as long as they know who the Queen is! :gaga:

For me personally, BRITNEY will always be the Princess of Pop, no one can take that away from her. :flutter:
