Taylor Momsen speaks her mind about modern music

I love The Pretty Reckless, they're the best current rock band around right now. I just can't find a rock album these days that is beyond just above passable, but they create amazing music that provides light at the end of the tunnel and I wish they had more albums out and had more success. I think Taylor is spot on although some of what she says isn't always the artist's fault. A lot of labels give their artists ultimatums now - do what we tell you or get dropped. And as soon as you have one flop album, you can be out the door. I mean, Interscope dropped TPR themselves after one album (for shame). So, lots of artists, especially if they don't make some form of alternative music, feel they have no choice but to continue down the path of genericism if they want their music to be heard at all. I've always said, forget illegal downloading, record labels are the real enemy of artists. Not even the indie ones are completely flexible.

Decade after decade people always have said "music nowadays sucks, it isnt how it used to be". And they are gonna keep saying that. I dont exept that to change

That's what I've noticed as well. Every generation (well, not everyone from the current one) seems to think their generation had it best, not just in music, but with life in general. I feel the same way. But how many of these people have actually looked back at some of the stuff they used to enjoy back then? If they did, they'd realise what a rose tinted view they have of it. They only remember it fondly because it's nostalgic stuff from their generation. This explains why when I listen to some so-called classic albums from years ago, I don't get why they're held in such high regard. Maybe if the people who raised them up actually listened to them again, they might feel the same way. Every generation has good and bad music and the current generation is always viewed as the worst. In the 60's, a lot of parents hated The Beatles and thought they flew in the face of good music...decades later, they're considered legends and some of the best artists of all time. It's always the same with every generation.

Hipsters

*vomits

As already stated, she's not a hipster, she's a rocker. And not everyone who thinks this way is a hipster. It's a general feeling a lot of people have right now.

I agree. I mean Max Martin has a hand in like 40% of pop hits since the year 2000 is disgusting. Then you have his frequent collaborators like Dr. Luke and Shellback writing songs with that same formula for everyone too. We keep getting producers that smash with one song and then everyone flocks to them to try and recreate it. That's how you end up with thousands of songs that sound the same and don't offer anything new. It feels like everyone's trying to find the universal pop formula and there isn't one. The industry has become so safe and boring.

Where are the artists like Gaga who have their own vision and reject the label's demands to work with bonafide hit-makers? We need pop songs that don't just say what they think people wanna hear. Artists like Gaga have original material that creates conversation and affects our culture. Most artists have material that panders toward the listener. A good pop song doesn't follow the trend, it starts one. Plus, I'm ready for some smart pop songs tbh. Just because a song is catchy doesn't mean it has to be written with elementary school-level lyrics.

keep doin you tay tay :applause:

Music died after the 90's tbh, Like this world it's all recycle of the same trash and i think it's bcuz one cares, the world become more n more selfish and that's reasonable But If someone was born before the 90's pretty much knows his faves, Even tho there still pretty much nice music out there dem days, maybe ballads But that's pretty much it.

All the souls artist already did they think back in the past, i mean really good musicians, True reason there is nothing left on this world, cuz life gets harder and at the end it find us not to care ..

But doesn't every generation say this about the current generation? I don't know, maybe I've heard it so much that I kind of roll my eyes at it

I do enjoy their music though (I know a few singles but not their albums), so I guess I can only hope they're successful in their endeavour
