If being laughing stock means to be Iconic , I'm glad that Gaga isn't

No, its being the most important / influential / successful woman in pop music history that makes her a legend.

I dunno. Taylor is undoubtedly bigger, but not more iconic.

Gaga is the Madonna of our generation and if that is not an icon, I dunno what is.

In my messy era.

Madge is an icon, for now, but she is destroying her legacy imo.

madge is a legend and she will go down in history as a legend

thats a facT

michael was destroying his legacy too with child abuse accusations

What sets Gaga apart is that she does things which are "different" and challenges our value system, what can be called okay in society (like wearing meat, embracing gay love)

If Taylor did stuff like that too she would be more iconic, but by staying away from things like that, although she is less memorable, she also doesn't have to bother with controversy

not among new artists. sure taylor and katy are selling better atm thanks to max martin and what not.

but they are nothing new or interesting like gaga was when slaying and she still pushes herself musically.

time will tell i guess

Remember that you are unique. Like everyone else.

Maybe the most iconic of our generation, but definitely not of all time.
She needs a couple of more decades to compete with the big names such as Madonna, Cher and MJ.

Lose control. Let go and fall. Do you get the satisfaction?

Beyoncé and Madonna by MILES.

I can't at y'all being so delusional.

That's not to say Gaga isn't iconic... I think her years as an icon are only beginning.

Pop fans need to get over this term iconic as using it so early into someone's career.  Do you think Bowie called himself iconic in the midst of his early career?  Hell, no.

Gaga hasn't been around long enough to be iconic. Bowie is iconic.  Madonna is iconic.  The Beatles are iconic and not from their first few records.  It's what and how they evolved musically and their impact that looking back makes them iconic. She doesn't have a body of work big enough to be iconic, especially given ARTPOP didn't make a huge impact.  Cheek2Cheek is a duet album of standards, nothing that hasn't been done a million times before, and Tony has been milking duets albums for years to much aclaim.  It's just something nice and diverse in her disocraphy to show she can sing.

She will get there and have her legacy with a discography and videos and appearances standing the test of time worthy of being iconic, but let her have her youth to create it, instead of putting such a heavy title on her and setting her up to fail.  She should be young, in the peak of her creativity.  U2's cultural and iconic impact, as well as Depeche Mode's came many years in the making as far as building and making greater and greater albums, with their fifth and seventh albums  (for U2) their huge masterpieces, and for DM many heralded non-mainstream, almost cult albums with their sixth album breaking through big time  but their seventh album being their commercial masterpiece, Violator, and tours becoming iconic tours.  I would hate to feel Gaga never was heralded for original music that made a cultural pop difference after bursting onto the scene unique and changing the pop landscape with The Fame, The Fame Monster and Born This Way, but not heralded for any original music after.  That would depress me.

Gaga has a lot more to show and prove creatively before she is iconic and not an early phenomenon that faded original musicwise.  I have faith in her and her talent.  She needs the breathing space to do this without fans trying to give her such a lofty title she can't live up to.  Let her have the creative space to make her destiny as an artist.

Gaga is iconic, but right now not as much so as in 2008-2011.

She is better at singing than pretty much anyone relevant today (other than Xtina), but in terms of iconic Taylor, Rihanna, and others r more so...at this time!!

Maybe with AHS and the new album she will redevelop the icon status with more ppl than us...THE LITTLE MONSTERS!!!:miley::gaga:

I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

Today's pop music is boring tbh. There are bigger stars than Gaga but they're bland. Imo, Bey comes close to Gags because she's a very awesome performer with a pretty decent discography.

:saladga: I bet you haven't listened to one Madonna album in full
