Hmm in a way I'm just glad that they didn't pelt her with paint or whatever  They have good intentions obviously but I don't think this is the best way to go about it

If an animal is dead already I see no problem wearing the fur. However, murdering an animal for fur is disgusting. It's on par with murder. Just search "animals killed for fur" on youtube and you'll see why these PETA people are so against it. It's absolutely disgusting and sickening. Whilst I'm not a PETA supporter (I eat meat) I can sympathise with these activists. The fur industry is absolutely sickening and anybody who supports it needs to realise where that fur is coming from.

As if calling someone disgusting and telling them animals get a--lly electrocuted will change their mind about wearing fur... :fail:

These people are no better than the crazy "Christians" screaming on street corners...

I think the difference is politicians actually impact the rights gays have. Anti-gay legislators can (and do) turn down bills/laws/etc. that give members of the LGBT community equal rights, so going after them kindof is attacking a root of the problem, or someone who can actually make things change- it's going after the "industry."
Sure, Kim buying fur is giving money to the fur industry and therefore supporting it, and her image/influence makes it seem "okay" to the public, but the impact of Kim vs. Politician is very different. I feel going after the actual designers or manufacturers of the clothing would be on the same level as going after anti-gay politicians.

Going after Kim, though...it just seems like stepping on one wasp on your front porch when your goal is to take down the hive- go for the hive, and use the proper equipment.

You did not just use that metaphor in an Animal Rights thread!

But really, it goes beyond Kim just funding the fashion industry with her purchases. Kim Kardashian is a fashion icon. She along with her sisters are trend setters, have their own fashion lines, and own several boutiques. They definitely have a significant influence when it comes fashion, and there for an influence on the trend of wearing fur. Kim could make a change. Her sister Klhoe, for example has made anti-fur statements in the past:

I'm vegan, consider myself an animal rights supporter, so for me it's not hard to find agreement with the activists who crashed Kim's book signing. I think there is a place for their abrasive tactics. But I'm open to the idea that I could be wrong.

Oh heavens I didn't even consider the insensitivity of the example I made. :dies:

(However, let's be honest- even animal rights activists wouldn't be okay with a wasp nest on their front porch)

Khloe did that herself? When I saw that photo I thought an activist spray painted her coat while she was out. If she did it herself though, that's amazing.

I do agree that Kim as a fashion icon should take more responsibility in considering where her clothes come from. But I think if we really want to change her mind we need to do so productively. The tactic in this thread instigates conversation, but obviously has not changed Kim's mind about wearing fur in the years people have been doing it to her. (And really, what makes someone join the side of someone who just threw paint on them or yelled at them?)

I also consider myself an animal rights supporter and am a vegetarian, making more and more vegan choices as time goes on. I just want people to use tactics that have the highest possible success rate.
