But it cannot be compared to rape.

Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer and Geert Wilders LIVE for this moment. Some even tried to start #JeSuisPamela trending, they want to be seen as "martyrs for free speech". They knew very well nothing could harm them because they had HUGE security which looked more like paramilitary unit. They want more of these attacks so they can continue with generalizing and blaming whole muslim community for what happened. These people sell books and get rich with fear mongering and islamophobia.

So you cannot compare it with rape at all.

Or maybe some Muslim should stop being so offended so fast.

Or maybe some Muslim should stop being so offended so fast.

Or you could read again what I wrote.

"so offended so fast"

This hate group exists and operates for years.

The goal is to smear whole muslim community for actings of individuals.

Not to mention that shooters are often young, converts or just started practising with little to no knowledge of religion, but the religion is always to be blamed for it.

If we'd blame Judaism for groups like JDL and individuals like B.Goldstein or IDF war criminals - you would call it antisemitism. You are not exactly for full freedom of speech.

I realize these people always want to look like the martyrs. Imo this "contest" was stupid and obviously meant to rattle people up. They are extremist "freedom of speech" crusaders. Kind of like the people that want the "religious freedom" laws AKA freedom to discriminate.

However, these Islamic extremists carrying out this attack confirmed IN THEIR MINDS what they think of ALL MUSLIMS. That's where the issue is. They label ALL Muslims as extremists.

That being said, I see your point in how my rape comparison was off because indeed a woman being raped has no preconceived provocation towards a rapist.

But even with all the provocation in the world no one deserves to get shot up even if they are offending. I don't believe Westboro Baptist Church members should be shot up. I don't believe KKK members should be shot up. No matter how much I disagree about someone's views, no one deserves to be attacked.

And again, if someone can't handle living in a society where they might be offended, they clearly have deeper psychological issues.

Well then we agree on most things, except I'm with Luc on this whole "freedom of speech" thing. I think obvious hate rallies like KKK, Neo Nazi, pro IS/Al-Qaeda gatherings etc. shouldn't be allowed.

Different groups have different things which offend them. I was reading recently about freedom of speech and burning US flag. Imagine if bunch of immigrants organized contest with the best idea how to desecrate American flag.

How do you think these right wing patriots of Texas would react? I'm pretty sure you'd find big enough idiot who would want to stop it with violence.

It is actually perfectly legal to burn the US flag. So if they were to try to stop it with violence they would be going against their own beliefs that the US constitution should be respected lol.

I personally would prefer if hate groups were more restricted, but then it's legally conflicting in the US to decide on what is hate and freedom of speech, etc. Because if they aren't creating violence, they aren't doing anything illegal. Westboro for example. All they do is spread hate with words, but they aren't a violent group. There have been restrictions put on them such as a distance they must keep from soldier funerals that they protest.

You also have to keep in mind that some people in the US feel so strongly about their constitutional rights that even when they perceive it being restricted they freak out. (Like the gun issue).

Hate groups wouldn't be an issue if people could have more self control, which extremists of any kind lack. I like the idea of a council like there is in Europe that decides what is hate speech, etc. after careful review. But then we know the US and Europe are on different spectrums on different issues.

Exactly. Geert Wilders will probably get a few extra seats in the polls because of the extra attention and self-victimization. Right-wing leaders live off of media attention.

Princess Die

well, you just did

My family lost someone the day the towers went down. Having lost someone to such a tragic event, I can safely say I don't condone extremism in any shape or form. You don't know that though. You don't know a damn thing about me. I could have assumed and judged you with the (literally) thousand of ignorant things you said when you were a zealous christian. But I never did.

But hey... I said those people were asking for trouble by doing something that was perfectly meant to discriminate against a rather big group of people that have been known to use violence. I'm the asshole. :lana:

Nod if you wanna make love with the enemy. ❤

Wow, that escalated quickly.

And my christian time, well, thank god they are over. I'm glad my mum brought me back from it. So you don't know singly shiit about me as well.

Oh and I never called you an asshole as well, I think you overreact.

If these right wing patriots (who, by the way, i can't tolerate) showed up at a U.S. Flag burning rally and shot at those who were burning the flag, they would be shot themselves, if police were hired to protect this rally. If police weren't there to stop the shooters, then they would be arrested and tried in a court of law for murder.

No matter how much someone disagrees with someone's speech or ideas, you don't have a legal right to kill them in the U.S.

Yeah of course you're supposed to be allowed to say what you want. With its limitatioms, in my opinion. And the limit is spreading hate, which is what this event did. I do not think they asked for it, I just think that the US takes freedom of speech way too seriously, and fails to see the problem in protecting discrimination by law. They shouldn't have been shot, but in my own imaginary dictature they would've been goven a punishment, to clean a mosque for 40 hours, and the shooters wouldn't have been killed but instead sent to a re-education centre (jail) for 10 years.

The limit isn't spreading hate, not in the U.S. Freedom of Speech, even for hate, is protected by the First Ammendment of The Constitution. What you are proposing is a slippery slope. In this country, you can blast the government, the leaders, the police all day long! That's why we have Fox News and MSNBC- too completely different viewpoints, but allowed their negative views on the government, FBI or police just the same. I know it's hard for people who don't live in the U.S. to grasp this idea, with so much protection for freedoms, but There are reasons for this protection and these freedoms to exist.

Free Speech is not discrimination. That's why you are going to see this Freedom of Religion Law go to The a Supreme Court. Free Speech does have its limitations, especially through the private sector. For example, the fraternity boy on the bus singing the racist song was expelled from his college and the whole frat chapter was shut down, because of the members singing along on that bus. Now....this same kid could go out in his yard and sing that song at the top of his lungs, and the U.S. Constitution protects his right to do so. He would not be arrested or prosecuted by the law for singing a racist song. If someone came out of their home and shot him, that person would be arrested and tried in a court of law.

Saw that on tumblr:

*musical mocking Mormons*
Tumblr:How funny and edgy!
*pictures of crucifixes in urine and people flipping off icons*
Tumblr:How funny and edgy!
*a draw Muhammad contest*
Tumblr:OMFG HOW OFFENSIVE!!!! Like why would you even do that?!?!? It's so unnecessary to mock someone's faith like WTF is wrong with you that's totally unacceptable!

But still rude for some even if it is a metaphor. Personally I think that religion can be mocked, no matter what. Believers should have faith enough not to attack physically anyone.

The Book of Mormon

Winner of 9 Tony Awards

HIGHLY offensive to Mormons or Africans!

No one is going into hiding because they wrote this musical and actors aren't in danger of getting shot every night they perform this musical. The Book of Mormon has been on Broadway for four years, was in Chicago for two years and has had two National tours. There is also a production in the UK and an upcoming production in Australia.

I've seen The Book of Mormon and it is very offensive to Mormons, Africans, and perhaps to anyone that believes in God, Jesus and really religion in general.

I wont post the lyrics here, but here is a link to one of the songs:

NSFW: WARNING- could be HIGHLY OFFENSIVE to many!!

I know what would happen, my point was that different groups have different things which pisses them off and you can always find that one idiot who thinks that using guns and  violence will stop people from repeating what he finds offensive. Also different countries have different laws and interpretations of freedom of speech, in one (US-ally) country a "performance artist" got prison sentence for defecating on different national flags. It was not part of freedom of speech, in another example questioning number of Holocaust victims is criminalized in many countries and some got 5-6 years of prison sentence for publicly talking about it. I guess it's all up to interpretation.

I think it's ironic how you're trying to portray the US as this country full of freedom, democracy and rights. But that's not the good thing. The US has less democracy than almost any other prosperous European country (because there can only be 2 opinions in politics), freedom of press is less prevelant than in most of Europe, with media often being almost Russian-like when it comes to their propaganda, and the only 'right' that the US has that my country has, is the right to discriminate others and still be protected by law, as immoral as it may be.

I don't get this obsession with protecting discrimination. Discrimination is bad and should not be protected constitutionally. Yes, being allowed to criticize the government is good, but the US isn't the only country where you're free to criticize the government how much you'd like - far from that, in fact.

The obsession with freedom of religion, the right to discriminate and the right to 'bear arms' are things that keep surprising me about the right-winged conservative mess that the US is.

Just let me be clear, they have every right to draw Mohammed. But aiming for laws that forbids the Quran, struck down mosques, tax people for wearing a headscarf, forbidding headscarves in schools/hospitals/public buildings, allowing people to not hire someone based on race/religion and to fine people wearing a burqa are things that I do not consider to be democratic at all and things that I do not support. This rally supported all of that, and the Dutch politician Geert Wilders aims for implementing all of that.

I'm not. The U.S. still has its problems and still has a long way to go on certain rights and with discrimination and racial relations. It is not perfect, by any means!

Freedom of Speech protects speech, not discrimination...and I never said the U.S. was the only country that was allowed to criticize their government!

I believe in the right to assemble, freedom of speech, and freedom of religion. I don't believe in using these rights to discriminate against any race, religion or any other subgroup of people. I even believe in the right to bear arms, although I hate guns! (this is a hard one for me) I would be perfectly fine if they outlawed all guns, except for hunters, (that means strict guidelines on who could own them and what type of guns) TOMORROW!

There is a difference in what I prefer and what freedoms are protected.

That's kind of ironic because these things would never happen in the US. And some Europeans support these bans.
