Well, they did have heightened security and that's why both gunmen are dead. 

Interestingly enough, in January, there was a Pro-Islamic rally in the same building. 

Yes and Islamic center was recently burned to ground in Texas. And Iraqi refugee was recently shot dead in Texas. And extremist Christian protesters have shouted down Muslim kids singing national anthem in Texas. 

So what if there was rally in the same building? That rally was about American Muslims defending their religion from slander and wanting to live in America in peace, they had members of other faiths as well. It's a conference hall anyone can rent. Are you trying to connect and hold responsible those people who held peaceful conference with a shooter just because of the religion?

They were not supporting Al-Qaeda, where did you hear that?

The yesterday's event was not a "free speech event" but a right wing extremist bigots meeting who advocate for destroying mosques and deporting all Muslims, while their supporters call for mass murder of Muslims all over twitter. Heard it on CNN.  Yesterday's event was covered under free speech and the right to assemble, just like the one in January. I said it was in the same building, because the point is that this town is allowing two opposing groups to gather in the same way. I don't care for either one of them or support either, if the rally in January was indeed what they said it was. If it wasn't, then my feelings are different. Either way, no one at either of these rally's, deserved to have their lives threatened or get shot for their ideas and beliefs. (Even if I don't agree with one or both) The men who came in to shot unarmed civilians were shot, before they could kill and injure others, and that I do support.

 I do not support any kind of discrimination, even with groups that I completely disagree with. Just last year, we had the Klu Klux Klan come and hold a rally in my city....the city with The National Rights Museum...the city where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. My cousin, who is biracial, had to go protect them as they marched. Why? Because he is a city policeman who was assigned to the event, and they are citizens of the U.S. He hated doing it and I hated that he had to! Do I think they had a constitutional right to hold a rally in my city? Yes, I do. Do I support them or their ideas in any way? Hell NO!! 

That's how it works in this country. Citizens have a right to a peaceful protest or assembly, even if the majority of U.S. Citizens don't agree with that group or support them.

CNN is pretty liberal. I don't care what the group was there for, either one actually, because the bottom line is they both had a constitutional right to meet and to express their views. 

This is the end of my discussion with you on this matter. I'm not the enemy here. I don't believe in discrimination, but I understand why certain unfavorable groups are allowed free speech and the right to assemble in the U.S. I don't support bigots or racists. 

There are plenty of bigots and racists on this site to argue with, but I'm not one of them!

It's a tricky one. In the U.S. freedom of religion/religious expression is a core value but so is freedom of speech. Those two are almost impossible to merge without conflicts.

The only thing that can solve it is more education about Islam among Muslims ànd non-Muslims. This alone must decrease even the possibility of fundamentalism and prejudice dramatically.

i dont think you can defeat twisted ideologies by just shutting them up or banning their ideas. you do it by letting them preach whatever they want and shutting them down  publicly with logic and rationality and demonstrating to younger generations how  twisted and erroneous those beliefs are.

 

i just dont know if suppression of ideas works it just covers it up. its like if theres a mess in your room and you just put a blanket over it when people come over so you arent embarrassed for being lazy and not cleaning it out.

It's kinda sad they they have this type of competition anyway, like what good does it do? 

BUT it doesn't mean that they deserve to be shot at. Even though they're trying to rile people up, it's still not acceptable to attempt to shoot or scare them with a gun.
