Fiona Apple 13,006 Posted April 28, 2015 Share Posted April 28, 2015 As uncanny as it seems but I think Mary Jane Holland or ARTPOP (because of their none generic radio sounds) to me Applause was literally her safest option which is annoying because everyone of her lead singles have been daring in some way or another;Just Dance & Bad Romance were daring in terms of sound,Born This Way was daring in message & had a sound that still to this day has not been recreated by any artistNo tbh. crybrowz 3,247 Posted April 28, 2015 Share Posted April 28, 2015 Venus would have been perfect because its a beautiful blend of commercial and experimental. its catchy af and it would have been a good indication of the era ahead of us due to all the Greek mythology references(but yes I know it wasn't written at the time). Aura would also have been interesting. Also I don't get why everyone thinks DWUW should have been the lead. I agree its one of her best songs but it doesn't give me "lead single" vibes. Typically I don't think collabs should be lead singles and also the song is quite different sounding from the rest of the album.
