They are doing it because they have an excuse to do it and think they can get away with it without being arrested.They don't actually care. Most of them have no idea what to care about. You don't start hurting random people and stealing because you actually care about something. To suggest otherwise is very naive.It's probably more naive to suggest that you understand the rational of every single individual rioting on the streets of Baltimore right now, then it is naive to suggest some of the rioters are legitimately motivated by the fact that they live in a city where black men are routinely subjected to police brutality. I don't know if throwing rocks at police officers hurts their cause, and I don't know if a peaceful protest would garner more attention, but ultimately nonviolent resistance is the way to go. The "Black lives Matter" protests will get the 'right' audience to listen and pay attention. Throwing rocks at the police and burning buildings gets the National Guard on standby and possible deployment. I the attention they are creating is all negative and a lot of America will look at "Black People" thu these images. like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. I do think there may be a legitimate place for rioting though. As a gay American I owe any rights that I currently have to a group of Queer New Yorkers who rioted against police violence. After being harassed and assaulted by the police I can't say that Marsha P. Johnson throwing a brick threw the window of police cruisers at Stone Wall wasn't ultimately a fruitful protest. Minorities have been peacefully protesting for decades and **** is still not changing. It's easy to sit back on our keyboards and condemn an act caused by tensions most of us will probably never understand or experience. Baltimore is a city plagued by crime and it's obvious that the riots are not simply a direct result of police actions. And they are attacking and looting from each other.The stonewall riots on the other hand happened after police actively sought out a group in private places constantly over a long period of time. And they didn't start rioting because they wanted to loot or attack each other.And if we want to a--lyze the situation a little bit deeper, the stonewall riots succeeded in large part because it brought a hidden group in society into the spotlight. And it allowed the group to organize as a collective to bring about change. The violence isn't the reason it's seen as a success story, what happened afterwards is.If poor crime ridden communities want to achieve major, large scale change, even peaceful protest isn't enough. They have to actually band together to bring about change and they have to better themselves at the same time.
