As a mom, it’s difficult to watch your child struggle. Whether the obstacles your child faces are physical, academic, or social, you want to do everything you can to help. But too often as a parent, you feel like you don’t have the tools you need to guide your child through the difficult experiences we all encounter growing up. This is particularly acute when the problems your son or daughter grapples with are emotional.

When my daughter Stefani—who most people know as Lady Gaga—was a child, she had to learn painful lessons about the dangers of cruelty and the importance of kindness. She was creative and unequivocally her own person, but her peers didn’t always appreciate the things that made her unique—and different. As a result, they would sometimes taunt, humiliate, or exclude her. It was hurtful for her to experience and heartbreaking for me to watch.

.....That’s why my daughter and I founded Born This Way Foundation. Grounded in the belief that the world can—and must—be a kinder and braver place, our organization is working to inspire young people to lead the best life possible and empower them with the tools they need to get there.....

That’s why Born This Way Foundation has partnered with the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence to launch the Emotion Revolution. Dedicated to building awareness of the central role emotions play in young people’s learning, decision-making, relationships, and achievement, the initiative is beginning with an unprecedented online survey of high school-age youth nationwide. Results from the survey will be presented at the Emotion Revolution Summit this October at Yale University. My daughter and I will join Yale President Peter Salovey, the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, and hundreds of young people from around the country at this convening....

The part about Gaga is saddening. I know a lot of kids who get bullied because they're different. My own niece does even and she's more normal than my siblings and I.

But I'm very glad that a helpful and positive organization could be born from such experiences. And I applaud Cynthia and Gaga for their commitment and passion in the Born This Way Foundation.

Sometimes I can't believe that Gaga was a kid. :fat:

She came out of her mother's womb and started singing Jazz. :fat:

It's so sad. Gaga's been through tough times. Glad that she's a GOD DAMN SUPERSTAR right now.

This may sound strange, but I wish my mother was more like Gaga's. We're ok now, but she meant barely nothing to me growing up and I really missed a strong woman to look up to. Some discipline would've been nice too.

Great to see the foundation is still going strong and really aiming to make a change. I hope it happens soon.

According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

Feelings are a real part of every person. When they get damaged, there are no bandages and most people don't know how to heal them.  They get covered up and the wounds remain, unseen by everyone else except your family, loved ones and friends.

Raising awareness will help a lot of people almost immediately....

like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. My words give a clue, look inside to see whats true
