DMTT 160
Reposting this because it's relevant based on the last couple poststhis is a post i've been meaning to make for a long time. often Warrior (the album) gets hated on for either: (a) not being kesha's vision (b) being disposable, meaningless pop music or © not showing evolution. i don't understand when people say that. i find it to be one of the best pop releases of 2012. 1) warrior is the first song to show kesha's message. if there is one star who truly believes in the "love yourself"/etc. message, it is kesha. she seems way more sincere about it than gaga, rihanna, etc. imo, because she doesn't shove it down people's throats or anything. she wrote this song for her fans. 2) die young isn't a deep song by any means, but it served its purpose: a catchy dance track. lyrically it doesn't show much evolution, but she hasn't really released a song that sounds like this. it was meant to be infectious and it was. 3) c'mon is another fun one inspired by a real person. every artist has a song about a crush on someone--this is kesha's. just cuz it's sluttier ( :P ) than others' doesn't make it any less meaningful or whatnot. 4) thinking of you is obviously inspired by real events. it's that bitter, boy-hating track she has on every album. the chorus is super clever and this is the first rock-ish track on the record. 5) crazy kids, too, was written for her fans, but the message is slightly different. it was inspired by her party, right? it's another party song, but there's slightly more meaning in this one than in DY. it's not really supposed to be deep, obviously. 6) wherever you are gets hated on a lot, but it's a hell of a dance song. and it's a cute love song. just cuz it's electronic doesn't make it any less meaningful than if it were an acoustic song! 7) dirty love is the true rocker of the album. i'm sure she loves this s-xy song, it has iggy pop. probably the most shallow song on the record, but it's VERY fun. 8) wonderland, on the other hand, is probably the most meaningful. this one's kinda like the story of her career. it's very deep and shows a COMPLETELY different side to her than previously shown....evolution! 9) only wanna dance with you was clearly important to her, since it was an old demo that she worked on over and over again til she got it right. once again, not super meaningful, but look how specific and story-telling the lyrics are. that's awesome 10) supernatural is about having s-x with a ghost? i don't quite understand wtf that means ( ), but it's again obvs inspired by an actual event. it was meant to be an album highlight i think. it's quite beautiful imo. 11) all that matters was inspired from coachella, furthering the theme of living life and enjoying the beauty in it. it's a little silly, but the bridge is perfect for her concert--"put your mother****ing phones up". it's a killer dance song--what's so wrong with that? it sounds like nothing she's ever done before. 12) love into the light is such a pretty, raw, emotional, and inspiring song. it's like the same message as BTW, but without the cheese and cringe-worthy lyrics. she's not the best writer out there, but it's such an honest song that you have to respect it. and it sounds pretty different, again, when compared to her old stuff. 13) last goodbye is great, pop but a very different kind of pop than you'd expect from kesha. it's meaningful and inspired by a real guy 14) gold trans am is the other rocker song. very feminist, very catchy, very southern country rock. not deep at all, but it's very different-sounding for her. 15) out alive is the last of the three major dance songs on the record. it's purely a party song, but i think it has one of the best instrumentals. again, you wouldn't hear this on animal or cannibal. warrior is a very good combination of a LOT of different subgenres of POP. 16) past lives is the most indie pop song on the record, her most diverse. it's a pretty, thought-provoking song. the guitar is great; really wish she could've gotten 1-2 more wayne songs on the album.. so basically, it's not 100% different than her first two albums, but it's an amazing transition from her older sound/style to what she'll do next. let's be real, if she went from cannibal to something completely different, that'd be ridiculous too. you need to gradually evolve, not just change completely. that's so ingenuine. after a--lyzing warrior, i've realized she grew lyrically and sonically. it's an improvement and a good development. it's a way more inspiring and real-life-like album than BTW, which was over the top and unrelatable. warrior, imo, was an amazing pop release, and people who say it's not what kesha wnated may be wrong. i would think she's mostly happy with it. this album shows great evolution, great diversity, and that she had influence in it even if people think she didn't. the lyrics are so obviously hers and even if the songs are a little party-ish and crazy, it's clearly HER life she wrote about, which is what she promised from the beginning. i don't see anything wrong with this album. wow, if anyone reads this, thanks xP just had to vent haha
ALX 170
Reposting this because it's relevant based on the last couple posts that's nice but I think we're so critical because she failed to deliver what she said she would
zexion_armando 241
i think dancing with the devil is one of kesha's best tracks. totally should have been on Warrior. instead we are stuck with BS like Wherever you are Wherever you are is amazing, and basic b---hes will deal. I think you meant Wonderland.
Foster 23
My problem with Warrior is that we were promised cock pop, but got generic-as-**** radio trash. If the album was like this, I'd enjoy it a lot more: Woo Hoo Pretty Lady You Control My Heart Dancing With the Devil Dirty Love Only Wanna Dance With You Love Into the Light Last Goodbye Gold Trans Am Past Lives
Introvert 0
I honestly haven't listened to Warrior in months. It has no replay value. It was terrible compared to Animal & Cannibal. I'd much rather have songs like DWTD than the ****ty pop that was on Warrior Warrior is way better than Cannibal though. the only thing i can agree with your posts on is that the Warrior-era overall lacks a point of view. she seems to be unsure about what shes selling probably because she wasnt allowed to create exactly what she wanted to create. but at the same time ive always thought Cannibal was really weak. whereas to me Warrior has higher highs. last goodbye i like a lot, the only problem i have with it is that it sounds like a fun. song as opposed to a ke$ha track. every song nate ruess touches becomes a fun. song to me. i cant stand him
isMusic 629
I don't think I'll be meeting her after all.. These are the final tour dates, right? no more to add later or something, right?
Grizzlybear2 457
So I know there arent many good "active" Ke$ha forums out there, but im going through a major Ke$ha phase and feel the need to join a good one, so if anyone knows of one or two let me know! PaperIz 7,346
i dont get the Warrior hate AT ALL i LOVE it same here. Also if Supernatural isn't a single I will jump off a bridge. Human generated art
DrewStevens 5,249
Warrior is an amazing album. Kesha is generic and you have to deal with it. But she's the best generic artist now. Supernatural, Out Alive, Last Goodbye, Warrior, Die Young, C'mon and Love Into the Light are the best songs on the album, but every song is really good in some way. The production it's much better than any of her past productions. And "cock-pop" sounds kinda old.
Introvert 0
So I know there arent many good "active" Ke$ha forums out there, but im going through a major Ke$ha phase and feel the need to join a good one, so if anyone knows of one or two let me know! ive already looked, there are none. best bet was atrl but the mods there are assholes and don't want to bother weeding out trolls so they closed registration indefinitely And "cock-pop" sounds kinda old. everyone here wanted her to go through with the whole "cock pop" thing but from what weve heard of her "cock pop" edged music it just sounds pretty wack to me. ke$ha's not rough enough to deliver anything remotely 70s rock/punk without me scoffing. TheResidentZionist 128
Wherever you are is amazing, and basic b---hes will deal. I think you meant Wonderland. Wherever you are, Lyrically i think its great, musically on the other hand.... the production is horrid. i consider myself an electrosnob and you need to level with me when i say its generic sounding. Otherwise I like Warrior there are some great songs but the album is not as cohesive lyrically and sonically to Animal/Cannibal
TheResidentZionist 128
Reposting this because it's relevant based on the last couple posts I admire your intention and effort in this review but frankly you dont a--lyze it musically and rate its cohesiveness. Your focus is more on the image and the artist. You have to separate the music from the image to really absorb it. Stop relating the album to K$ and focus on how you feel viscerally in relation to the sounds and lyrics. Otherwise you have some good opinions :) The album has its moments but overall is kinda all over the place. Animal and Cannibal were very distinct sounding, the themes and attitude are more complex. Warrior is way less cohesive mainly because you can tell than the label gutted the album and filled it with songs they wanted. It focuses on certain themes and can be deep but then suddenly you have a generic pop song preaching the exact opposite right after
