Well, I've heard some that have said that the time between the leaks and the album release really hurt her. If people already have a product for free, some may choose not to buy. What do you say?

I suppose that assertion is true, but we have to then beg the question, who would have downloaded the leaked album? As with most leaks, only big fans usually know that a leak has occurred. Most fans buy multiple copies of an album, and since the leak wasn't complete, most fans would have bought the 'new' copies.

That makes sense, but I remember the leak announcement was posted here and I'm wondering whether other non-Madonna fan sites might have had the same. In which case, non-Madonna fans might check out the leaks to see whether or not the album is any good. Even if only 70% of the album leaked (I don't know how much did but from my understanding it was several in a row), the person listening may have then decided not to buy the album even if they enjoyed the music (maybe opting instead to buy single songs that were missing). What are your opinions on that?

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

It's all up in the air really. Hard to say which way the knife would have fallen under different circumstances. :noparty:

I suppose so.

I wonder what caused the leak though and what her plans are moving forward into her next era.

I feel so sorry for all the hate she is getting.

I know! Especially form Gaga daily. People can be nasty here. :awkney:*inb4 people say; people at Madonnanation are worse!!*. I don't care, you guys are still nasty. :reductive:

Anyway so this is, according to Forbes, a flop:

Well this is one awesome flop.:whitney:

Why does this site say that thy agree with articles about Gaga "flopping" but when it's Madonna it's flamebait and we're being haters. The numbers are NOT good for someone like Madonna, and if Gaga got called out, then Madge should too.

one thing i realize that all you  guys are saying is that "oh its madonna she's already rich" "she's already a legend" "she doesnt need #1's"

but let me rewind to ARTPOP era when the same people here who claim to be gaga fans were bashing ARTPOP, calling it a flop etc.... & when people said oh it's gaga she doesnt need # 1's, she's becoming a legend, she's alreadyyy rich they got dragged!

smh make your mind up people.... OH & REMEMBER THIS ICONIC PHRASE...

I'm pretty sure they are completely different users though? I mean Madonna/Gaga are in completely different stages of their career. So what Gaga has a slight dip commercially? So what Madonna is 56 and not selling like she was in her 20's?

The numbers of Rebel Heart are fine. Has it been somewhat of a commercial disappointment? Well sure, the singles haven't done so well but things are stacked against her. She is approaching 60 and the youth market is not as interested and radio is blacklisting her. Not to mention the album leaked months before it's release.

Despite this Madonna still managed to get an album to #2 on the charts. 121,000 units sold might be bad for Gaga/Rihanna/Katy but it's a different story for Madonna. Just look at her contemporaries:

Prince, in 2014, released an album that reached #8 on the charts selling  26,000 units.
Paul Mccartney, in 2013, released an album that reached #3 on the charts selling 67,000 units.
David Bowie in 2013, released an album that reached #2 on the charts selling 85,000 units.

These are all icons and legends but they don't have the selling power they used to.

Madonna's tour already looks like it will be a hit. She is selling out venues globally. That's where her career is at now. No she doesn't necessarily have a huge youth fanbase who will buy her albums, but she still has a huge and loyal following of older fans that can afford expensive tour tickets.

We can only hope Gaga will have this sort of career at the age of 56.

First week sales, dear. That's the front sales. Is it still selling? No.

Take a seat. It is a flop.

Mister Gaga

It's a pitty, cause the album is 10 times better than MDNA and Hard Candy :crossed:

The lyrics of Joan of Arc exceeds all MDNA songs combined. And she got really involved with the promo. I mean, she was at every festival/show/radio and maybe even the VMA (RH Tour starts right after the VMA, so it makes sense).

Don´t give up M!

I feel like this has been posted before :emma:

Anyways, wonder if she lost Interscope $25m :hunty:

Right... I am glad I wasn't the only one to think this. There is no way Rebel Heart has repaid any of its marketing costs. It's not like you can book Madonna at the Motel 6 while she performs at the Grammys.
