Eh..

I guess she's just getting caught in the moment, that's all.. And I actualli like it, so no, it doesn't bother me at all.

:ohwell:

They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.

Anyone else hate the way she sings dope. She makes everything sound like an "O" sound and she exaggerates her vibrato soooo bad :rip:

Yea i know what you mean. There are a few qualities of her voice that I dont like besides the shouting (she doesn't always show these qualities, its only during certain songs or certain parts of songs). Sometimes she has an unpleasant heaviness to her voice or sounds like she is exhausted/drunk like in Dope, specifically the album version of Dope.

Isn't it a mixture of belting and shouting though? If she just belted without the off putting shoutyness she would sound perfect during those parts.

by mixture I meant some of them are belting, some are shouting :emma: (IIRC, She is belting during Lush Life, not shouting, but she might be shout-belting the "Niight" in Marry the Night. Belting high notes is harder though.

I would say yes but actually when you see her live, it never comes across as shouty or did it stand out for some reason or another. It seems worse on tape.

I never once considered her as "shouting" during You've got a Friend.  Maybe during the 4 non blondes tune it could be argued as overdone.  She was never out of control or out of pitch with YGAF, she was just louder as part of her dynamic approach, and she certainly never once sounded "bad" to me.   Maybe it's just because I come from the Rock world, but Pop fans seem to be more sensitive to this kind of stuff, maybe because pop music tends to lose almost all dynamics in vocals in modern pop thanks to auto-tune and the general trend towards robotized, highly compressed vocals.

she is not shouting -_- you have obviously no vocal knowledge, she is belting, within her range and she is great at it, better than her contemporaries except Beyonce, it has nothing to do with shouting, i have no idea where did you get this from, shouting would damage her voice and sound much different and certainly would not be accompanied with vibrato, plus she is pretty effortless at this and sound amazing :kissga: for those who have no idea what is going on in this thread which seems to be all of you :kissga:

I don't know. I think she is shouting during the belty parts in Lush Life, some performances more than others. I actually think her least shouty performance of that song was the first time she sang it in Montreal.

Not really, honestly the only time I ever felt she was too shouty was the "What's Up" performance at Vienna(or whenever she performed it first). I was very surprised that people found the Sting tribute "shouty"

Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn

she just gets really into it & she's a metal fan remember and most of them shout their extended notes.

I love when she shouts bc it shows she's putting passion into the performance, i think everyone has either consciously or subconsciously been raised with this idea that female vocalists need high pitched & well controlled voices in order to be able to "sing" these notes.

she is not shouting in MTN, it is all belting, she sounds like that cuz it's almost the top of her range, but still within her range, i asure you, no shouting involved, if you have another example do tell, so that i can consider :monsterpaw:

Its not about dynamics though. I don't have any issue with this. Its the strained sound that comes along with shouting that sounds unpleasant. I love it when she gets loud and belty without shout singing. For example, "The Edge of Glory" during the BTWB sounded very good to me. She belted beautifully without shouting.

This really the argument about studio quality vs. live performance.

Studio recordings are often bits and parts of individual attempts at a song, edited till only the very best parts come together for the complete piece.

Live performances are one try and the audience gets to hear every detail, mistakes, variations, ect.

Also, many singers are taught to sing from their gut or belly... when Gaga does this, she seems to lower her tone to  bartone vs. soprano... so it kind comes out rough.
