Dunk96 2,526
I love it because it shows she puts emotion into her music, unlike many other pop divas.
TimisaMonster 31,073
I think Gaga does it to "hide" struggling to reach the note...perhaps Sometimes she does it to get people's attention...or sometimes to get REALLY into a song The MTB performance of Teeth is probably the most known for this...I just wish she would also stop SCREAMING PROFANITITES during the shows for no reason...like "Now DANCE you M.....F......!!!!!" Ferrer Zorola 3,966
I dont think its that big a problem, I only care that she sometimes tries to growl out high notes which isnt the best way to do that from a singing standpoint (and not too healthy either IIRC ) I actually think all the times you listed are the times are a mixture of belting (Lush Life) and something else... And I live for those moments, they are great vocally. Its the growling thats the real problem imo. She tends to do that on Ballads for some reason, but she can sing it clearly too so i dont get it why She does it live really and not often ever in studio recordings. what does growling mean isn't that the sound an animal makes? Schwerk 7,246
I think the shouting happens because Gaga gets caught up in the emotional side of the songs and its how she expresses herself. Its almost like the performance is as much, or maybe even more, for herself as it is for the audience. I think sometimes she forgets that people are listening to her and she needs to sound good. Or maybe she shouts purposefully because she likes the way it sounds. I just can't help but think how much better her performances I feel it's the 'shouting' mostly happens when she's really in the moment and she looses herself in the music and has fun with it. Inside is a rock n roll dude trying to get out. She's such a passionate performer so she sings from the gut, especially at her own shows. Gaga also loves things to be a bit raw an imperfect. I just love how she just gives her all and doesn't care she's derping like crazy belting out those notes. She's more like a rockstar than a popstar in that sense. It can be a bit much at times, like what's up, and I admit I to cringe a bit sometimes, but I know it's different when you're there live in the audience. Live performances aren't really meant to just be listened to, it's all about the full experience. EDIT Damn it I can never properly quote when I'm on my phone, it's so annoying! I didn't mean to just quote the video of Katies post, but the part where she talks about Gaga doing it as a form of expression and doesn't care how the audience likes it. According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch
ItsTommyBitch 12,640
what does growling mean isn't that the sound an animal makes? Google it Some people do it for artistic purposes, esp. in more Rock-like genres of music 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

Schwerk 7,246
It also makes me think back to artrave when she sang the last part of Do what u want acapella. I found it quite refreshing since she usually belts out her adlips. I love how she can do both and I hope she'll continue to balance them cause these soft moments are so captivating, especially after the rush of energy you get from seeing her belting. ARTPOPisaChoice 946
A little bit. That's the reason why the Oscar performance was so praised, she didn't shout. She showed restraint. Hands up to the sky 🌧 I’ll be your galaxy 🌌

Whispering 18,865
She's mostly belting in these examples. Sometimes she is adding some rock style vocals to some of the songs in a live setting.Neither one of these is considered to be "shouting".
