hmm i guess im too stupid to understand her abstrac lyrics in donatella.

donatella is a parody song though, it is meant to be ridiculous. Gag DOES have some bad lyrics but that doesn't mean she isn't a great songwriter in general.

Gaga's songs (lyrically and sonically) to all of Katy's, Beyonce's & Sia's "written" songs

When she writes for herself, Sia actually has some great lyrics...

i find her videos more interesting tbh, for me her song writing is easy to read, songs where you have to think are good songwriting for me

i think some the time she doesn't care for her lyrics to be well-written or the next songwriter picasso, she just writes what she wants and i'm glad she has a good mix of light hearted, fun lyrics and more abstract lyrics, it shows her diversity as a songwriter. yes, she can write all these lyrically advanced songs with very diverse meanings but at the same time she can write something for everyone to enjoy without having to think about what they're listening to

However, if she wants to continue to cater to a mainstream audience, I see her lyrical handiwork as a massive flaw. Contemporary hit radio audiences audiences want "spoon-fed" lyrics; lyrics they can caption their Instagram selfies with; lyrics that can extract a meaning from quickly and sing to themselves repeatedly.

You're not necessarily wrong, but we have to split ways on this. It's easy for fans to put Gaga in a box, because we're not the ones doing the work. But I'm sure, for her, that kind of perspective is not very helpful.

Okay babe ^^

You've mentioned them, they adorn themselves with so many feathers from other persons.

You have  formulated that this happens to every songwriter: like Gaga, Katy, Nicki - but I just wanted to mention that they ( Katy & Nicki ) are very clever to hide behind real lyricsts.

It was not a real compare, but a generalization.

Peace, okay ?

cringing :lmao: ok

While I respect your opinion,  I don't see it as such. We can agree to disagree here :)

i think a lot of memebers here have a complex they can't deal with gagas flaws and everytime someone points out a flow they throw stones at them, well guess what no one is flawless but those flaws dont meant that she isnt a great artist

"Let's have some fun this beat is sick,  I wanna take a ride on your disco stick"

That is a genius lyric and probably the best she has ever written. She can write nice lyrics but she doesn't always, however it is okay that the quality of lyrics fluctuate in her songs because they can't always be the most important part of the song. I think she's fine.

From the ARTPOP alubm the title track and MANiCURE have really good lyrics

Anyway, addressing the OP, I've had a love/hate relationship with Gaga's lyrics since day one. I LOVE songs like Heavy Metal Lover and Mary Jane Holland, but at some point they fall flat, lyrically. One feeling like it lacks any real substance and the other having a tragic bridge that interrupts the flow of the song.

I know these lyrics have meaning to Gaga. I also know these lyrics have meaning to a select group of fans because they take the time to add context to them. However, we should NOT be surprised when ARTPOP gets a ****ing 61 or whatever on metacritic. There is a difference between being Gaga on The Fame and being Gaga on ARTPOP. At some point, it truly lost its connection to the average listener.

And I'm saying this out of all honesty. You know why so many fans say her music isn't relatable enough? Because it isn't. For the most part. Her lyrics are not conventionally beautiful or moving. They're vague and clumsy a lot of the time. It makes the average listener uncomfortable. Like, wtf did she just say? At one point, it was done in a very effective way. Most of ARTPOP was not effective. Effectiveness relates to how an audience receives it. 4.5 million copies >>>>> 700k. And sure sales don't mean everything, but they do have a say in the matter.
