I was listening to Glamorous and an epiphany occurred.

Fergie could've very well influenced/inspired The Fame. At the very least her album The Dutchess helped pave the way for Gaga's breakthrough.

Both The Dutchess and The Fame were pop albums that targeted the clubs.

They both included electronic elements, sass, and s-x appeal.

I know that's basically what pop is post-Britney but considering The Dutchess was released in 2006 and The Fame was release in 2008 I think this is something worthy of discussion. I haven't seen anyone ever compare these two artists.

Why was Gaga compared to Katy Perry? At the beginning of her pop career she was way more similar to Fergie. What are your thoughts on this?

P.s. Fergie was the first pop girl I was huge fan of, then Gaga came and snatched my soul so this isn't meant to be a negative thread. :lolly:

I don't hear it. Also, Fergie's music has a bit of an urban tinge to it.. Sure Gaga dabbles with that but it doesn't seem the same for me. Imo The Fame sounds like a better version of Gwen's solo material.

The Fame had some urban tinge as well on Starstruck. Listen to The Dutchess and then listen to The Fame. They aren't identical but I do think they are very similar.

No I know that there is some with Gaga but it isn't as consistent as it is with Fergie. But I'll give the whole album a listen and get back to ya :unicorn:

Not you just describing my life. I recently had to throw away all my Fergie posters cause I felt like I was getting too old for them

I feel like Teenage Dream by Katy was influenced by Fergalicious. Didn't Gaga reportedly write for Fergie early on?

I stanned Fergie back then, BGDC & Glamorous are some of my fave songs ever tbh.

but I don't think she influenced The Fame, nor does she have anything to do with Gaga's success. She did a nice job of mixing urban/rap and pop though, and unlike Iggy no one came for her bc she was white (as far as I know)

The fame was inspired by Gwen tbh

the Dutchess was pretty much a tacky version of L.A.M.B

I haven't listened to L.A.M.B in full but I'm listening to What You Waiting For? right now and it definitely inspired The Fame. Gaga and Gwen sound sooo similar here. :air:

I like Fergie but I can't relate how The Durches would have influenced The Fame,.

I've always thought The Fame was merly inspired by 90's Techno Pop, both musically and lyrically.

What kind of a pop music fan has not listened to the glorious L.A.M.B.? Go listen to it in full now :madge:

This is such a silly and stupid comparison... for one the dutchess was R&B influenced pop which was very vocal and the fame was nothing like that it was electro-dance pop.

Sass and s-x appeal? Seriously? those were trends in pop music ever since the late 80s.

And she was compared to katy perry back then because they were both new very raunchy (at the time)  hit makers and still are. Female pop stars are always subject to comparing

guess whos up in this bitch
