Is Lady Gaga a fictional character?

I think we talked about this a lot of times..

I think that Gaga is definetely a part of Stefani, she also said so herself. But I also think that if Stefani would have started out as just the "normal brunette", if the public would have never known her as Gaga, then she would have probably been too shy, you know? So maybe at the beginning Gaga was kind of a persona she created to be more confident.
So maybe she was partly fictional at the beginning.. but definetely not now. :)
And they are one and the same person, I'm sure of that.

This! I believe it's just the way that most women like to wear great clothes and makeup when they leave the house. Even as a male, I feel more confident when I know I'm dressed well and my hair looks good (because that's not the case all the time) :laughga: As we know, Gaga uses a lot of makeup, costumes and wigs. I believe they are the elements that make Stefani confident. During her speech @ The Itunes Festival she talked about it - she was afraid to be herself (as an artist) without covering up. Then she created a persona that would make her feel confident in front of the whole world.

“I am — Stefani is — a perpetually tortured artist, that’s why I changed my name. I can’t be her in public. She would be a mess!”

Beyoncé acts like this flawless fierce persona thats better than everybody else. Katy Perry acts like a goofy and s-xy bubblegum disney princess.

Everybody has their act. And the public also need sthat so they can label you and put you in a box. Oh yeah, Gaga, she's that crazy girl.

And she is that crazy girl but she's also a lot more. Sometimes in interviews she's probably acting a bit. And perhaps at times she even was on the edge of becoming a parody of herself. But in the end everything what Gaga does and stand for is what she actually believes in.

Lady Gaga is a comic character that is owned by Marvel when they both the rights for her from Troy Carter in 2013 .... expect her stand alone movie that will be part of MCU soon she will also make a cameo in C.America: Civil War where she will use her fire bra and pants to save NYC :gaycat:

I don't think of Gaga and Stefani as two different people, where one is the true her and the other is a complete facade or an act. Gaga is who Stefani grew into and its an aspect of her personality. Its not like Stefani "plays" the character Gaga during her performances and interviews and then takes her wig off at the end of the day and becomes Stefani. I believe that she truly is herself all the times. Her outfits may be partially (or initially) part of a marketing plan. But, at the same time, I think she really does enjoy dressing up and changing. Its her creative outlet and she loves it. Its really like a win-win for her and her label.

I think she exaggerates her Gaganess sometimes and maybe plays up her character for attention.

When you think about it, all of us kind of play characters or different parts of ourselves at different times. For example, when we are with our families we act different from when we are with our friends. We just show different sides of ourselves to act appropriately depending on the situation. This doesn't mean that we aren't always being ourselves. Gaga isn't going to have a super high energy fearless personality like she has on stage when she is sitting down with her family to have dinner.

I think Gaga is more of an expression of who Stefani always wanted to be, but never felt strong enough to be on her own.

edit: oops this got wordy. ;)

I think this is to some extent true.   I think she also put up walls, that "mysterious" persona that people keep missing, as a protection against the parts of the industry she didn't like and also to shield herself from some of what she went through to get to that point... she wanted to be fearless and have a "give no ****s" attitude because she believed she needed it, and she was also trying to keep herself strong by attempting the "tell a lie enough times and it will come true" mantra.

But she couldn't keep it up forever, she found she needed to let down some of the shield in order to deal with the underlying issues and to allow her to have human relationships with meaning.  She also saw that many of her fans were dealing with issues and she wanted to let them know that she knew at least part of what they were dealing with.   This opening up is why many people feel she started declining during the BTW era, because she started pulling down the facade and revealing herself underneath.  This was obviously the message of ARTPOP Swinefest, she made it obvious and direct.

A sort of hero worship has grown up around that "give no ****s" attitude, somewhat b---hy, fearless, unknowable version of Gaga.  She was put ( put herself also) on a pedestal that made her not the same as anyone else.  Many people prefer this because they looked at that version of Gaga as a role model and something to emulate.  Our society sees "feminine" qualities of empathy or emotionalism as "weakness" (to it's detriment).  But Gaga is very empathic, she is not that type of person.  She couldn't keep that up forever, couldn't keep her need for emotional healing and release.  So she stepped off the pedestal.  People that venerated that version of Gaga were left with an imperfect human instead, and they have been upset ever since at the change because they feel Gaga let them down, that they've lost some sort of role model in an idealized version of a pop star.

Gaga is searching for her balance now, I think she's closing in on it.  Yes, Gaga has that type of strength in her naturally, which she over exaggerated at first, as well as the empathic, passionate, very human person she's shown recently.  She'll find a way to use both parts as needed and balance in her life.

It may be we won't see that pure TFM style Gaga around again, although she was out and playing during SXSW.   However, the genuine emotion and flustered gratitude on Gaga's face when the Academy Awards gave her the standing ovation is worth the trade off IMO.

while she goes in "pop star mode" you hear a very outspoken, raging, performer.

I can counter that with these two out of countless examples:

14:14 into this:  https://vimeo.com/100648495

And this clip:  https://vimeo.com/79370048

On stage the kind person who cares about other people is often evident.  Gaga and Stefani are exactly the same.  The raging performer is just a vehicle she uses.

I live outside the space time continuum.

Yes, I think so..

But I believe she's still being true to herself while playing along.
