I also think that sometimes the way that she feels about something is actually real, but her reasoning isn't completely true. I think she does this to maintain a level of privacy about her personal life. For example, I always had the impression that she was never bullied as badly as she said she was. Something else caused her a lot of pain when she was younger but she attributed those feelings to bullying because she didn't want to discuss the other thing or things.
