Why didn't Beyoncé's 4 receive the criticism that ARTPOP did?

Everyone is too busy suckling on her teet to realize her music isn't really that good at all. People get caught up in the whole fact that she's Beyonce and kiss her ass no matter what.

It's all about being an easy target. There's no fun in criticizing Beyoncé's sales because she's still widely seen as the best popular performer we have. Her popularity simply doesn't rely on sales. With Gaga that's a different story.

Well 4 was not either a total flop, the album spent 2 weeks at #1 and was certified platinum in the US, and Run The World was very popular all over the world.

Because she was pregnant so it kinda meant she didn't fade like Gaga did during ARTPOP

4 kinda did well commercially when it was first released but it got backlash for it's success with the argument being that if it wasn't for the surprise release, it would have flopped.

I guess ARTPOPs "flop" is more memorable then 4's which is why it feels like ARTPOP gets more hate

eh, 4 is a lot more indie than ARTPOP which is, well, pure pop

Not talking about albums. I'm talking about image. Beyonce has a more commercial friendly image than Gaga.

I dont think its because bey is untouchable or whatever

Its simply because gaga took herself WAY too seriously doing an era instead of having fun with where people will appreciate her... its not like you can do a video for a song about power bottoming a short film and pretend like its the best and most meanungful thing anyone has put out

guess whos up in this bitch

4 is a consistent album full of throwback R&B tracks released when electronic music trends were at their apex. It's easy to understand why people respect it even though it wasn't a smash. Plus, Bey is not polarizing in any way, which always helps cushion any backlash.

Because true art rises the question, is it good, or bad? Is it even art?

And mediocre art just goes by praised, noticed, but fading away with the winds in the sands of time.

Part of Gaga's story is how quickly she became popular - she's known for the numbers she brings in: the sales, the records, everything. Beyonce had a slower rise to fame from Destiny's Child to her solo career, so numbers aren't significant with her.
