Katie14 4,828 Posted March 15, 2015 Share Posted March 15, 2015 From what we have seen, I think she has a lot of potential. I think she was really good in MTN and as Joe Calderone. I always thought that those who criticize her acting in those situations are truly criticizing who she is acting as, not her actual acting skills. For example, the MTN clinic and apartment scenes were uncomfortable and difficult to watch because Gaga was being extremely vulnerable. The scenes were supposed to make viewers pity her and almost view her as pathetic and weak (although she is determined to get herself into a better situation at the same time). I can see how these scenes can be misunderstood as "bad acting" when in reality it is just strange and uncomfortable for us to see Gaga in that kind of light. I could be totally wrong though. Her movie parts were very small, and her music video acting is usually purposefully campy. I'll have to wait until AHS this year to really have an opinion on it. On SNL she is really REALLY deadpan, gazing directly into the camera and breaking the 4th wall, etc. Hard to say if she was doing that on purpose for schtick/to poke fun at herself or if that's the only way she knows how to act. I don't think we have had a chance to see her challenge herself or truly ACT as a character who isn't Lady Gaga. She seems better suited to Broadway than the silver screen but, again, she hasn't had a chance to prove herself yet so we will see! Maybe she wants to be in control too much and that withholds her from truly becoming someone else. But I believe she can. Marry the night seemed to be the most raw and real, and that may be cause it was so personal. Her overdramatic streak would work better for musical theater and she had proven to have great comedic skills and timing.I would love to see her in a serious role but she would need time to really delve into it and perfect her skills.
