it's influenced by the structure of songs and stuff it's not made with like the same types of drum machines & synths

As an 80's kid and huge fan of 80's pop, I agree.

I think it was mostly her birth year.

 

The 80's were the golden age of pure pop, synth pop, and dance pop in America ... so maybe pop = 80's for her.

The song that sounded the most like an 80s song was You R In Love, that 80s-inspired piano intro just slays my life  :giveup:

Like the posts above me, she was inspired by 80s/90s music. I hear some influence in the melodies and undertone of the music but aside from that, calling yourself an 80s kid when you're born in December of 89 :awkney:
