Madonna: "Kanye is the new Madonna"

And what's up with 'I'm crowning you as queen of pop''you're the new Madonna''you remind me of myself' she really wanna give her name to anyone but gaga, the fear is real.

Right? Kanye is more like Madonna in the sense that he pushes the envelope in a way that makes people dislike him. I guarantee a huge part of his "ego" and "narcissism" is put on for publicity. Remember when he and Gaga were teaming up for the Fame Kills tour? They both connected over the way they manipulated the GP and played up the stereotypical PopStar/RapStar personas, and also over their informed knowledge of what Fame does to people.

Then I think both Kanye and Gaga got sick of the GP thinking they were nothing but an act with catchy music, so Kanye turned to try proving his knowledge of fashion and music, frustrated that people didn't take him seriously and depressed from his mothers death, and Gaga turned to showcasing her vocals more and doing more to help people socially with all her humanitarian work.
All of these things have been there for both artists since the beginning of their career, but they've shifted from doing things for shock value to doing things with artistic merit with some shock value or surprises thrown in to keep people eating out of the palm of their hand in the mix.

A lot of the time people nitpick what Kanye says or take it out of context, which is sad because he does have knowledgeable and relevant things to say. Just like they did with Gaga back when everyone thought she was a pretentious airhead.

That being said, Madonna labeling him "the new Madonna" is eye-roll-worthy. He's not following in her footsteps, he's doing his own thing. Just like Britney wasn't the new Madonna, Gaga isn't the new Madonna, Cyndi Lauper wasn't a wannabe Madonna, etc.
Saying things that come off as "You're great because you're just like me!" just isn't a mentality I support. Using your own status to measure someone else's worth when the most memorable thing you've done in the last year is flash people at the Grammy's and fall on stage isn't something I can take seriously, despite the fact Madonna's been the most relevant and influential artists for decades.

Aren't you doing exactly this with Madonna's words now though; as the quoted words of Madonna don't actually show her say anything that Kanye is 'great like me' or 'like me ergo great' - you're taking that from her words because you recognise that Madonna is great (no reverse psychology intended  ). As far as the quotes go; she immediately continues her comparison of Kanye to herself to the "envelope-pushing" that they hold in "common"; I don't think there's anything unfair in what she says there

Off topic too; maybe it's due to the slower activity here but I've seen quite a few of your posts in the past few days and I think they're really great and you make a lot of interesting but unbiased points :flutter:

I think it's okay to draw comparisons and point out what you like about someone else, relating to them, but the way she said he's the "new Madonna" and "black Madonna" by using her own name as a reference of relevance is something I find annoying. Like an artist doesn't have to be like YOU to be great, y'know?

Also, on this topic of Madonna, people have been ageist towards her and I find it sickening. A part of the backlash she got for mooning people at the Grammy's WAS directed towards the fact that she's 56, which I found unfair. She pointed this out in the article too.

However, I think the bigger reason she got backlash is because she flashed her ass at the Grammy's.
Granted, the integrity of the Grammy's has fallen to where it's becoming the VMA's slightly more sophisticated sister who yearns to be ratchet deep down, but the Grammy's just isn't the place for THAT kind of shock value if you want to be respected and taken seriously.
Turning it into "They're only against it because I'm a 56 year old woman!" is being pretty ignorant.

Thanks for the compliment! I've always been quite fond of your posts too.

Oh Madge, my dear, just shut up.. :awkney:

And Kanye.. well he is a pretentious dickhead. :miley:

They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.

too bad Madonna is nowhere to be seen on 'My faves' list

I'm just not biased as majority of this forum is and

1) I'm not denying Madonna still holds the status of Queen of Pop and

2) also I'm able to see one(?) bad thing that came out of TFM era - Gaga's excessive self-awareness, that sometimes showed in her pretentiousness - I hope we have that chapter in the past tho, as of now

the point is - you can call out Madonna for being pretentious on this forum since 2011 but when you did the same with Gaga in AP era - you were not a true fan and you were being negative...

this is sooo true for Gaga as well  :giggle:

I don't think she has an extensive enough discography for people to say that. I'm fairly sure her next record will be mindblowing.

True, both good at pushing people's buttons and getting hated.

Though in a more positive way Gaga is like Kanye. They both started off with 3 albums that sold really well and got Grammy AOTY noms, then started experimenting more in a way that cost them some chart popularity.

Sort of, but â€‹Gaga's "experimenting" album was Born This Way, and then she went back to her old style on ARTPOP. But yea I would say she's the only female pop star today who can push people's buttons like that with her art and performances. Most others have to resort to s-x to push buttons

ARTPOP for me is as experimental as BTW - some noisy abrasive songs, weird lyrics, some genre bending like J&D. Not all Kanye's experiments have gone over well either - for example, him trying to sing using autotune.

She must be trolling :troll:

For sure... I don't think that it's a statement to take seriously.
