One cannot enjoy music that is great. I am not a massive Beatles fan. If we continue to say all things are subjective in life, where does the standard go? That is like me saying "Oh I need to give all students A's on their papers, because writing is subjective." There are plenty of things my students have written that is quality, yet I abhor and stuff my students have written that is clearly not at standard, but brought me great joy. Like for example, I don't particularly enjoy FKA Twigs, but I can recognize the quality in her work, especially in thought provoking songs like Video Girl. It's not my tea, but it's not trash either. Music touches people in different ways, there's no measure of goodness but something awful can be something breathtaking to another.
