If there was no validity in his statement, then certain artists would not be revered as quality. One can enjoy music that is sub par. One cannot enjoy music that is great. I am not a massive Beatles fan. If we continue to say all things are subjective in life, where does the standard go? That is like me saying "Oh I need to give all students A's on their papers, because writing is subjective." There are plenty of things my students have written that is quality, yet I abhor and stuff my students have written that is clearly not at standard, but brought me great joy.

I think I can see where he's coming from. Like for example, I don't particularly enjoy FKA Twigs, but I can recognize the quality in her work, especially in thought provoking songs like Video Girl. It's not my tea, but it's not trash either. I think this is basically the gist of what he's saying.

What a stupid ****ing thing for Tony to say. Tony is a music elitist and backward. And it's getting annoying. "I'm pushing her toward quality" - Tony about Gaga. Wtf! Talk about arrogance, talk about ignorance especially when I highly doubt he's even heard her discography.

Did I say something true? Did I have a point of view? Did I say something wrong? Or did I stay to long? Cause I'm not sorry!

That was sweet of him, but I completely disagree. Music touches people in different ways, there's no measure of goodness but something awful can be something breathtaking to another. I can think a song is a masterpiece but a friend could think it's the most annoying thing he's ever heard.

This.

Im blonde, I'm skinny, I'm rich, and I'm a little bit of a bitch.

Yes. Some people are really missing his point. Music is either well done or it's not and whether you enjoy it is a separate issue.

exactly. just because people enjoy a taylor swift song doesnt make it of high quality.
