I certainly hope not. From a U.S. point of view, this kind of restriction on freedom of religion and speech is very backwards. (Not that there aren't plenty of Muslim-hating Americans who'd endorse it, but it would never get past our First Amendment.)

Not to rain on your parade, but wasn't the US the first country ever openly to tell immigrants that they have to assimilate into "American culture" and drop their own culture and traditions? Does Americanization ring a bell to you? It already got past your First Amendment 80 years ago and has been accepted and internalized to the degree of non-realization ever since.

They would never tell leaders of a religion to change the language they are speaking in though.

There's a difference between assimilating and integrating as an immigrant and the government outright controlling even the language you should speak in your place of worship.

But of course Americanization is a thing. Immigrants are always the source of bullying, etc. because they have different cultures.

Anyway, about this law.... I feel like the intent is good in the way to stop radicalization but it is discriminatory. Idk the severity of radicalization in Austria but it comes off a bit desperate? Is the problem so widespread that this is necessary?

Well radicalization is quite feared in in German speaking countries because there are some radical preachers that are out to recruit naive teenagers. Some months ago there was a incident where radical muslims formed a "sharia police" where they harrassed clubbing teenagers in the night. Also they're supported by that Prime Minister/President/New Führer of Turkey and rapper Bushido (one of the most successful and influential recording artists in German speaking countries)

Its impossible to deny that this is discriminatory, but conversely, its impossible to deny that equal responsibility is shared between all religions. I'm all for this.

This is a positive step towards assimilation of immigrants, and I think it will make the Austrian public feel safer.
