Idk, might be a bit too soon yet. I feel like Beyoncé added a lot to her status with this self-titled album now. She really only showed up to the big events, like she's too good for a x-factor or the voice performance (just examples).

I feel like Gaga still needs to add a bit to her status, but I'm confident she'll get there.

Out of the stars you mentioned, I would only consider Madonna and Beyonce as icons. I define icons as people who, after their time in the spotlight, are still being referenced and remembered. People like Elvis and Micheal Jackson. I think Britney and Rihanna, after five years of dropping out of the spotlight, will be sadly generally forgotten (Cher anyone? :flop: ). The truth is, I would consider her already an icon but she needs at least ten years more to cement herself in the minds of the fast forgetting public ;) So no, I don't think she is an icon. Yet. It is a hard club to join you know

I agree and yeah you are right Britney and Rihanna may not be as legendary as the other two but you get what I mean. Good job I didn't put Xtina in there :fan:

I agree, she is on her way and has solidified her place in this music world but just needs more time.

The hardest thing in this world is to live in it

She has reached Icon status a while back. She is iconic and has done so many iconic things and songs.

But if that wasn't clear already her Performance at the oscar solidified her Icon status and labeled her as Legendary.

Just read every media outlet and see what their saying

So surprised some of you think she hasn't achieved an icon status.

Of course she has. "Lady Gaga" is not only a name everyone knows, it is almost like a title. Her name is as resonant as "Madonna" or "Beyoncé".

How can anyone say Rihanna is an icon, but Gaga is not? Rihanna's success, as big as it can be, doesn't match Gaga's impact. I know her career is "only" 7 years old (you probably should realise how old you are if you think 7 years old is not much), but she is definitely the women that has proven herself enough. Her successful debut + The Fame Monster and Bad Romance + Born This Way + jazz success + Oscar performance happened in a reasonable timespan (not all at once) to be sure she is able to maintain her icon status for a lot more years. She had ups and downs, that is all.

I'm pretty sure we as fans, overthink this. As bad as she "flops", everyone (media and general public) remembers Gaga as an icon, it's undeniable, and it has been for quite a while. She just might need more time to become a legend, and after the Oscar performance she's a lot more closer

Gaga is above Rihanna in my opinion, Rihanna had never the impact Gaga had.

And Britney is an icon, but she stopped to grow and she is not an artist. Here in Europe everybody knows who is Britney Spears, but she don't has the Status like The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, Elton John, Rolling Stones or Elvis Presley.

Gaga has to go a way to be a legend, but she has everything for it, i'm sure she will count as a real artist like Bowie and an entertainer like Michael Jackson. She will be in between like Freddie Mercury, i'm sure - but in her own way, to be gagaesque means you can do anything - i'm sure she can.

( btw: Every human know here in europe who is Lady Gaga, if only the name - but Rihanna does not know a lot of old people, for example, despite her many hits )
