Jed 7,716
title. What we know: Katy Perry's halftime show was on the most watched events in television history. It was a very kid-friendly, and most likely won the trust of Moms across the world, specifically America. Missy Elliot also brought a ton of attention to the performance (and can't forget Left Shark) which undoubtedly helps Katy. However, she risked being overshadowed by both of them. What we know about the Oscars: Basically everything that's been posted in the last couple days, barely needs to be repeated. Most tweeted about event of the night, Vocal Slayage (capitalized tbh) that really revitalized the GP's awareness of Gaga. (bonus points for red gloves becoming a meme and the debut of her engagement ring). I'm kind of in a pickle. I like Gaga more but Katy had more people watching her which is extreme promotion. What do you guys think?
Robinladen 1,539
Superbowl was typical Katy Perry, while Oscars showed a new side of Gaga to the public. Missy Elliot her songs even benefited more on Itunes than Katy her songs.
Gianni Versace 2,987
Since you said "helped", 100% Gaga because her career was/is at a very delicate place whereas Katy's was more stable and there's not really much it could have done for Katy because people already liked her. Staryu 6,162
Gaga took the opportunity to show something "new" to the GP, while Katy did the usual (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it won't have the same impact).
Coop 15,359
+ so many celebs praised Gaga's performance... But people praised the left shark too tho
jsn 1,649
I've seen tons of people hating on Katy's performance so I don't think it helped her that much even if it had tons of viewers She wasn't even the most liked thing of her performance, people talked about and liked Missy Elliot and Left Shark more than her. Harry 26,836
Like everyone said, Katy did exactly what you would expect, and that's fine. Also she wasn't in the same position as Gaga since she didn't have an underwhelming last era and a load of backlash from the media and public on her back. They were two very different performances that served different purposes, so naturally I think Gaga's Oscar performance helped her more. Everyone knows Katy Perry is a fun, family friendly pop star, but not many people knew that Gaga is a powerhouse vocalist to be reckoned with. I guess I mean helped future sales. So like Prism and ARTPOP sold about the same amount. Whose followup will sell more?
Raikou 1,169
The Oscars was one of those magical moments of television. It has done such wonders for Lady Gaga the MUSICIAN.

Celina 118
I have yet to see one semi-negative reaction to Gaga's performance. I haven't even come across any trolls yet... Also keep in mind that she was paying tribute to iconic songs, so a lot of people would have had their knives sharpened if she had anything less than incredible. People know that they can't deny her talent at this point, whether or not they like her. I think it's obvious.
MJHolland 12,725
Lots of people disliked Katy's performance. It was boring at times and generally lackluster is many people's minds, including myself. Gaga has had damn near 100% praise for the Oscars performance (to hell the Shonda Rhimes). Gaga wins hands down.

GHGUY 230
The superbowl cemented to many that Katy Perry is a talentless pop star who appeals to pre-teens and conservative mothers who are afraid their children will be influenced by s-x and d--gs in the media (though Katy sells out on s-x all the time).... Missy Elliot and Left Shark outshined her.... Either way its not which has more exposure and which does wonders for ones career.... it all boils down to talent and if you dont have it, it will eventually catch up to you
