Bebe 17,094
This threads purpose is NOT to bash the other artists featured, it is to recognise how uniquely dedicated Gaga has been from the beginning of her career and show how much she increased the quality of pop acts. I have tried to find performances that would have a similar low budget but have a large audience. If you think these comparisons are unfair, feel free to provide a different video of these girls from a period where they were promoting their first single. First off we have Katy Perry performing I Kissed a Girl (at this point I want to remind you all that this isn't to bash anyone, only to show Gaga's passion for performing since the beginning). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDebwTnsud0 This is low in production value, and features no choreography and a pretty basic set. Not really much to comment on. She has come quite far from this to the superbowl. Next we have Rihanna performing Pon De Replay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okAM6NcpkQw This set has some choreography, however relies heavily on the backing track with little singing from Rihanna herself. She has definitely improved as a performer at this point. Now lets compare these performances with Lady Gaga performing Just Dance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2PvYNcEya0 Starting with a dramatic beginning in complete darkness, the ipod glasses she designed are playing the Just Dance music video. An interlude plays which ends in her introducing her name to the audience and home viewers and the music starts. From there we see Gaga in her unique and iconic outfit from The Fame era. Gaga starts dancing to Just Dance with her dancers (Dina and Pepper) while interacting with the crowd and singing live. She eventually changes into the glasses featured on the cover for The Fame and brings out another of her inventions, the infamous discostick and ends the performance with a dramatic pose with her dancers. I mean can we just take a second to talk about how incredibly bold, innovative and creative she has been since the very beginning? These days it's pretty common to see new artists rise with their choreography, stage productions and live singing - but it's something that Gaga really brought back. When Gaga says she lives and breathes her art, she genuinely backs it up and has done from the very beginning. Lets appreciate Gaga and avoid any flamebait towards her contemporaries. sips tea 0
lets be honest she's one of the best in the industry. she is amazing at the dance choreography but she also has a great voice. other singers rely on the dancing to keep the attention on them Gaga doesn't need to she has a great voice. Bebe 17,094
Yeah, but Rihanna was like 17. Its only natural a 22 year old would be more experienced, artistically focused & confident than a 17 year old. Once again, I want to state that this isn't about bashing Katy or Rihanna. This is to show the state of music and performance in the pop world before Gaga. Katy and Rihanna are two successful artists, this was the pop landscape just before Gaga broke. This is what record labels where promoting and this was the level of production that went into artists with their first hit single. The point isn't to talk about how average Katy/Rihanna where but to talk about how unique and spectacular Gaga was when she started her pop career.
