Paloma Faith Drags Taylor Swift about '' This Sick Beat ''

Is it not normal for artists to have the lyrics they're using for merchandise to be trademarked? All I know is I tried getting a shirt printed with the line "Don't you know my ass is famous?" on it and the company told me it wasn't allowed because the phrase is trademarked or copyrighted or something like that with Lady Gaga. I mean...is it not a standard thing?

How rude of Paloma.

And if you think someone has low self-esteem...why would you bully them even more?

The irony of a Lady Gaga fan deciding that an artist is annoying based on the characteristics of their fan base.

It would only be ironic if I participated in the stereotypical generalizations that stigmatize 'liking' Lady Gaga.

if she wasn't winning, you wouldn't care  :kissga:

If I hear someone say I'm pressed one more time...

I notice it's always the choice of word for when you can't think of an intelligent response. I guess it's such a difficult concept for me to understand because I always try to give meaningful responses.

Gaga trademarked Born This Way (for the BTW foundation) and ARTPOP. She had trademarked Bad Romance (abandoned it in 2011). She trademarked Little Monsters. She even trademarked the word Monster.

It's not like these trademarks last forever, get over it.

That is pretty stupid. I agree. That being said, Paloma Faith is annoying too. Shes one of those random nobodies that gay pop stans online try to pretend is a somebody because they can name drop them to come off like they have an obscure taste in music like they do with Natalia Kills and Porcelain Black. But they're all just incredibly basic b---hes that bring nothing to the table.

That was deep.

How did Paloma bully Taylor here? Do you even know what bullying is? :usrs:

Go Paloma! Love her even more now (props for the stuff she said about 50 Shades of Grey too!) She makes a great point - trademarking basic phrases smacks of a crisis of confidence. And whoever was the first to say "this sick beat" (because that phrase was around YEARS, maybe even TWO DECADES before Taylor said it) should be the one trademarking it and attempting to sue Taylor for copyright theft.

Are you kidding? Only the biggest divas in the industry pull stunts like this. Big Machine Records is Taylor's b***h. They will bend over backwards for her, let her make whatever music she wants, obey her every command because she was their first signing and their biggest ever seller. They wouldn't do stuff like this without her permission or blessing. It's rare that someone of Taylor's age can hold so much power, but she definitely has it. She practically OWNS that record label for all the power she holds over it. You can be a fan all you want, but you need to know when to remove the fan goggles.

Well said.

I don't know who Paloma is, but she has a point about this trademark thing... It's a phrase common in music of various genres in the past two decades.

Gaga sang similar lyrics in Love Game "this beat is sick," so imagine that catchy song not being produced due to some copyright technicality like this. Just seems like a power play than something unique to Taylor.

Most people just don't care that much about forum debates as you do.

Thanks. Her record label has made no secret of the fact that they worship her and allow her full creative control and so on. No way are they going to make decisions like this without her say so. I know that most other artists get decisions like this made for them, but in this particular instance, Taylor is a special case. Because we know for a fact that she wields a huge amount of power over her label almost to the point where it seems they're working for her, instead of the other way around.

I too, think this is just a power game, along with removing her catalogue from Spotify. Just something to make people feel and fear the power that she holds. Now that she's such a major player, being a force to be reckoned with is necessary. A "don't mess with me" persona that commands respect (and subsequently, more record sales). It will mean that she annoys a lot of people in the process, though.

I don't overly care. Just giving a passionate opinion. But you can't be passionate these days without people accusing you of being too serious and pressed. It's like, I'm not pressed, I just have an opinion. Ever heard of it?
