What was the main problem with TEOG music video?

It was really poorly shot. At one point Gaga's dancing and the camera is moving along with her, but then Gaga stops and the camera keeps moving, then backtracks to focus on her. At another point you can clearly see the shadow of the camera on the wall. It's just a mess.

The song is such a wonderful ode to her late grandfather and the love of his life... and instead of some poetic, beautiful video, she dry-humps a balcony railing instead. In my opinion, if she wanted to do a simplistic video, she should have left that for You and I. The Edge of Glory music video was a missed opportunity considering the lyrics (although I appreciate that it was done under time constrictions due to the "creative differences").

I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!

Compared to the ABSOLUTELY HUGE SPECTACLE that was the rest of BTW's music videos, to me TEoG just didn't compare. No choreo, no dancers, no outfit changes... Just a big "meh" compared to everything else.

Also we had all been getting really hyped about a mermaid-themed video before BoomKack/Kahn imploded so there was that letdown aspect.

because nothing exiting happened in it, the video was basically the same from the start, only one outfit and look

basically a boring thing

My Favs = Lady Gaga, Janet Jackson, Ricky Martin, AKB48

I don't think the video does the song justice. Im all for something simple, but it was obvious that this was sort of patched together as a result of the original plan falling through as opposed to a video that was simple on purpose. The cinematography and costuming looks expensive, but the editing and direction feels patched.

I love the song and the video was OK. There is nothing wrong with the video (only those people that criticize it).

I just kept waiting for her to get to the top of the fire escape. I kept waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting and then I realized life was going on without me. Days turned to nights, nights turned back into days. The years passed. 2011. 2012. 2013. 2014. It's 2015 and she still hasn't made it up that damn fire escape. I've been waiting for 4 years. I've lost everybody I loved waiting for her to do something -anything- in that video. It got so bad that I ended up in a psychiatric ward. And now I spend my days wondering why she was even going up the fire escape in the first place. Aren't you supposed to go down? What was on that roof? Was there even a fire? That video destroyed my life.

The problem wasn't that it was simple, it was that it was an obvious plan b. "We need to put SOMETHING out because the sales/chart position is in jeopardy if we wait much longer" is never a good creative decision.

The mermaids, the underwater scenes, the soldiers holding rifles, the Latin love interest, the fashionable doctors, the news reporter, the surgery/hospital scenes, the Brooklyn Bridge scenes, the cliff scenes, all that could have been, yet we got a video of her dancing on a fire escape

What I appreciate though, is that in a way Gaga DID give us the original concept through performances. The giant cliff on the American Idol performance and the Yüyi The Mermaid performance on Le Grand Journal.

People expect every Gaga music video to be an intense spectacle and couldn't accept something simplistic

I agree, i think the one thing i'd love to see from Gaga is a SIMPLE video... I always thought a song like You & I could've been in black and white, with Gaga in a dingy bar sipping gin and she plays the piano.

For TEOG i do feel it was too in-between if that makes sense? It was bigged up and then had a 'set' and nice outfit...but that was it? If you're going to do simple, then do it. This was just a funny one... the song deserved a much more impactful video i feel? But i also believe in her own artistic freedom, if she was happy with it, then i should be

Yes, 100%!

I think it's because of to that point every Gaga video was like a huge spectacle and this was simplistic (strangely, every video since was a spectacle, I guess we have yet to see if she did another video like this, would it still receive as much hate? After all people want organic stuff from Gaga)

I personally always loved the m/v
