Should Gaga change Her "core" audience?

I keep reading that Gaga hasn't done anything for her "core" audience, the pop fans who made her famous. That they are oblivious to c2c, don't care about it at all, and that Gaga is still essentially nonexistent to them.

Pop fans are notoriously trendy. They flit from artist to artist depending on trends and popularity and social factors having little to do with music. And teens and young adults grow and change perspective.

Katy keeps targeting the same demographic as most pop Stars do. It gives her a measure of short term success but how long can it keep? Does she keep targeting young fans forever or grow with Her original fanbase?

Other artists have a larger demographic. Taylor used to but she risks losing some of that by shifting to straight pop for short term gains. Adele has a huge demographic. Bruno has a much wider demographic.

C2c expands Gagas demographic, as would more organic production that is less tied to a particular trend. Lyrics that are more mature and relatable to a broader range also would expand her demographic.

Should Gaga continue to work on expanding her fanbase, or try to get back synth pop fans for short term gains?

I think she should work on expanding it.  If she does so by creating high quality broadly appealing synthpop the core audience will stick around for that too.

Gaga should continue expanding her fanbase.

I've noticed Bruno has a lot of latin/urban community support, at least from what I have seen in my life. Gaga should've toured in South America with ARTPOP.

If we can get rid of the fans who CONSTANTLY, RELIGIOUSLY AND OBSESSIVELY bash ARTPOP because it didn't perform as well and are afraid of what the other fan bases say, I would be ecstatic. Ecstatic

Fixed :hehe:

I don't think Gaga expanded her fan base with C2C, sure some Tony fans might have given it a try but you cannot expect them to buy Gaga's next album :air:

As for the fans, I feel like she already has a broad range of them, if you look at concert audiences the people are 6, 20, 50 whatever.

No. I'm not changing my fave, because I don't even like pop music. But I prefer Gaga when she makes pop music, because that's when she's the most exciting.

Oh and yeah I'm all for Gaga expanding her fan base. But she shouldn't force it. Just let it happen naturally.

I'm really not here for this marketing sh*t. Her label and management might have to think about it, but I hope Gaga herself doesn't. Just make music and we'll see later who turns out to like it.

Change isn't the right word, but expand. She's not going to stop making accessible music that pop-fans and the GP can eat up, but I'm sure she's going to move away from dance-pop with the next album and like you said make something more mature with organic production. She wants to be taken seriously.

She doesn't really need to. Some of them might jump ship once in a while, but nobody can leave the cult forever. :sis:
