Message to all of you having a hard time understanding this:

IF SHE WASN'T PLANNING ON LIP SYNCING IN THE FIRST PLACE, THE VOCALS WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ON THE TRACK

Maybe they played wrong track

OK, as a big Katy fan I'll be honest. Her live voice is not that great. I don't know how she sounds in a small setting, but it doesn't sound good in large venues.

However, its unreasonable to expect artists to sing completely live in the circumstances of the Superbowl. There is such a short turnover time with such a large margin of error. The venue is made to play football, not to provide the neccesary acoustics for live performances. Both of those two reasons combined make the audio engineering side of it even more tricky for those running the show. They have to find a way to record and broadcast it to millions live.

Plus, the performance is meant to pump people up and entertain more than it is to showcase technical skill. People want spectacle, not a showcase of vocal talent. It is wiser for the artist to place their energy in things like choreo and special effects over live singing.

Finally, the shows often last a long time without ending. Even in concert, performers have a little bit of recovery time in between songs.

At the end of the day, Katy was chosen to perform for a reason. I don't think live vocals are an important part of that.

All of this. Don't most artists lip-synch a little at the SuperBowl?

Not during the last two Super Bowls. Bruno and Bey sang live.

Katy is no Bruno or Beyoncé, or anywhere close. She should stick to lip-synching!

Well at least she's being honest about it

She thinks :lmao: she's not sure. The involvement, the input, the control of her career.

MTE :flop:

I'll give her credit when she says out loud: "I will lip sync as most of the time" :D That'll make me respect her a little bit :D

and yet the pressed haters who claim that she lip syncs cannot find ONE video of katy lip syncing a performance.

you guys though have to decide. you claim she lip syncs and then you say she sounds not so good live.

What I've always noticed about her and Rihanna is that they always perform live. That being said, the vocals are often average, slightly above average at best. I really don't respect Katy as performer/singer/"artist" but I can't pretend that she doesn't sing live.

However, if Beyoncé and Bruno can do it she should do it as well. To be a Super Bowl act is to be considered an "amazing talent." So be the amazing talent you're supposed to be and sing live. If your vocals aren't perfect then they aren't perfect, but at least showcase everything you have.

Rihanna always performs live, but her backing track is usually louder than her vocals.

Also...I really doubt Beyoncé sang live. There's lots of videos that prove her lip-synching on the On The Run Tour and Mrs. Carter Tour, when she doesn't even appear to be lip-synching. You can always tell when Britney or Mariah are, Beyoncé is pretty good at hiding it.

Some TV Shows actually force you to lip-synch when you sign a contract. And at least Katy sings LIVE in all her tour shows unlike Britney or other well-known flopstars, check out YT videos.

That is not true. That was never true. And that will never be true.

I just re watched Madonnas and Beyonces. madonnas is painfully obvious. If Gaga ever does it I hope it's nothing like that. But I think you may be right about Beyoncé.. I remember Kathy Griffin once saying that Beyonce lip synchs but not to a studio version, but a pre-recorded live version she does right before the show. To be honest that's just as bad but I would rather that then just the studio version.

Also with Beyonce (and some could say Britney) they dance really hard so that adds to the theatricality of the whole event. With Katy (yes I know she has choreography) her dancing really doesn't add another layer of performance to her shows.. So if she lip synchs plus some okay dance moves it really won't slay.

That is so true. I know some Spanish TV shows do, from first-person witnesses
