Exactly Germany thank you! How fast things can change in 70 years! The U.S is advancing pretty quickly in some aspects at least. We might finally legalize gay marriage countrywide this year, and legalizing it state by state, albeit a relatively recent development, has happened quite quickly! Malta and Italy have been calling for it for ages yet the rest of Europe refuses to listen because they don't want the immigrant in their own countries. Lately there's been a thing called optional burden sharing which is stupid. We are in the EU, there should be solidarity between states, burden sharing should be mandatory. Haven't heard of it, but I think it'd profit all nations. East- and central (excluding Germany) Europe has a population decline because of labour migrants to West-Europe and aging population. West- and South-Europe has more asylum seekers than they could possibly keep. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the number of refugees in Bulgaria is 38 000. Refugees in Bulgaria stay there temporarily, ultimately they want to move to Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark or the UK. And 38k isn't that big of a number, it's comparable to west-European countries. In my country, with a 17 million population, there's 1000 new asylum seekers every week. Germany is the most important country in Europe, but there's no way it surpasses USA. The link you posted only says people prefer Germany to USA, but that doesn't mean it's more important.
