TraeumereiLPB 343
The part about feeling guilty for what happened and is still happening seems to make many people upset. You say that you don't think the people of today should feel guilty for their predecessors actions. While I agree that someone can not be held responsible for what his, let's say, Grandfather did; I do recognize that every white person that benefits from the way the Society works is, in some way, guilty. I don't mean to say that they should be punished, nor should they walk the Earth constantly feeling like criminals. That would be wrong. What I think everyone who is 'guilty' of unknowingly (or knowingly, of course!) using the white benefit should do, is to be aware of the benefits they get from being white. Being aware of what happened in the past, of what happens today and who was / is responsible for it. Awareness alone is powerful and harbors the potential to change history. Maybe then can we unite and walk towards a future that knows no hate? As for Azealias tweet, I am not sure how to interpret it. I tend to think she wanted to say that she feels sorry for people who feel guilty for racism. Which could mean she also thinks we should not feel guilty as in feeling like first hand perpetrators, but be aware. Acknowledging the benefits we have and the disadvantages black people have. Just like I explained above. Of course I could be totally wrong with this interpretation. If any of what I say is offending to you, please tell me where you think I am mistaken in my post. I do not intend to make anyone feel bad. Knowing this topic is extremely complicated and delicate, please just tell me my faults so I can learn from my mistakes. It's hard to light a candle, easy to curse the dark instead.

DrewStevens 5,249
I think some of you are overreacting tbh. It's not like she said something offensive. But she messed up once again. Once again she generalized a group of people and that's not questionable. Her statement doesn't need a deep interpretation.

Maybe then can we unite and walk towards a future that knows no hate? This is why I'm so irritated at people who want to write off history. Like it or not, it informs your world and how you operate within it. American White people born today are not "guilty" of genocide/slavery/etc., but will grow to benefit from a system that makes them the standard and the norm. Think about it; a character in a novel that isn't explicitly described is more often than not a white person in our minds. I am TOTALLY guilty of this, as are many others. One must wonder where this comes from.
