Yes a lot of people on here do realise that white people have been stealing black culture for hundreds of years

And this theft has evolved into something normal over the years. Like some people don't even realize so many genres came from black people.

Will Hip-Hop/Rap have the same fate?

Can we have a thread about Iggy Azalea without hypocritical stans and pressed haters for once?

Yes, her career has been benefited by her skin color, but it has been benefited by her pop oriented songs too.

Also I don't know why some of you want her to address Azealia's point. Iggy Azalea has already said that this more a personal issue than a real social justice fight and I agree with her in that. Where was Azealia when Miley Cyrus said that she was aiming for a “black sound†and a “black feel†in her music? No where to be found. Why? Because Miley Cyrus is not her rival in the game.

Again, I don't deny that Iggy Azalea has been benefited by her skin color but I don't think she is the one to blame for these issues. She isn't 100% responsible of her success and neither responsible for someone else's flop career.

Can't at Iggy and her stans missing the point

Iggy and her stans didn't even watch the interview Azealia did, so their comments on the issue literally have 0 weight

This is what a majority of the interview Azealia did was about, but Iggy and her stans missed that. Azealia broke down three times talking about it because she feels as though Hip Hop and Rap will have the same fate and black culture will literally be slowly erased.

Since we are on this topic, it's interesting to think about who owns culture.

Do only people who invented a certain music form or art own that? Can it be shared?

It's no doubt white people have stolen culture for ages from the entire world. Profiting off the oppression of millions.

Since we live in a global society, should it be acceptable to "share" culture?

What I'm going to say about culture is that I feel when a person of colour does something - let's say they have corn rows or dreads - people refer to it as ghetto or ratchet, but when a white people does it it's seen as edgy.

I feel like culture can be shared but I also feel like the media are trying to erase the roots of the culture and make the white people who indulge in using that culture the front image of it, if you get what I'm saying?

I honestly don't know how to respond to this ignorance.

I'm trying to help you guys to see that this is more than stan wars, this is about black lives. Good god.

No, just no.

This is a stan war disguised as a social justice fight. White people have been using other cultures since the beginning of time and no one says anything on this forum unless is about Iggy Azalea, Katy Perry or Miley Cyrus. No one said anything about Gaga using a burqa or appropriating black culture with Jewels N Drugs. Also Tony Bennett is one of those white artists who stole things from someone else's culture and everyone seem to be ok with that.

And no, this is not about black lives. No one dies because of cultural appropriation. Cultural appropriation and racism are two different things. Comparing this to the racism that actually takes lives away is offensive.

Idk, I understand both sides of the argument. On one hand, yes Iggy is profiting from a genre that many black artists who are actually talented in don't get acknowledged. I agree she isn't the most talented either. But can you blame her? She found her niche and is making money. That is what the industry is all about.

I think the real problem here is society. Bashing Iggy and putting her down isn't going to solve anything. This issue is way bigger than Iggy, who quite frankly probably won't be around in the next few years anyway.

It's science, bitch

I know, which is why I'm reiterating it. It's a shame that Azealia poured her heart out and people are still being like "...but Iggy's got a #1"

Yeah. It's funny because one time I heard someone refer to jazz as "old white people music." Obviously this person is ignorant on the genre but the integration of jazz into white culture is so deep that since jazz is now "classy" and appealing to people with "superior taste" its roots are gone in a way. Jazz used to be "Negro music."

Yes I agree with this for the most part. I also think it has to do with the fact that the media is doing its job which is to cover what's popular among the masses. Maybe if the media focused more on lesser known black artists or lesser knows artists in general, things would be different. But we all know that's not going to happen... Furthermore, If Azealia would address this on social media the way she did in the interview(which I haven't watched yet), I think it would actually open up a lot of eyes.

Instead of threatening to thrown piss on her, she should be more educated and profound. Because in the end she's gonna look like a bitter black girl attacking a successful, innocent white woman.

I agree that Azealia should handle herself better, if she acted the way she did in the interview all the time then I feel like she'll be immensely popular. I recommend watching the interview because I almost cried and I had no connection to Azealia at the time of watching the video. Her points are just so valid
