Not when:

a) This strategy has led to several leaks. First, the lyrics, and now some traders have the album from a publishing site. She should not be waiting 6 months to release an album with all the information out.

b) Gaga fans are among the thirstiest and the hype would burn out after a couple of months. People would get sick of it. It's only working for Marina because she's lesser known and has an - albeit large - cult and indie following.

Didn't she though? We had half the ARTPOP songs from the SwineFest and lots of Born This Way album tracks through Gagavision

pero im talking with music videos, and not messy like that. A single orchestrated release every month. It doesn't have to be 5, it could be 3. idk i think its a good idea.

No, it's stupid. It looks so bad when artists have to release several singles before the album even comes out. I'd rather hear one or two at the most and then have an entire album to enjoy on the day it is released. :)

The problems with Marry the Night and G.U.Y. was that by the time of their release, the hype around Gaga had died down. Nobody cared anymore, and the people who did (the fans) already bought the album. I think there is a way to avoid this problem with the next album cycle.

So after Marina and the Diamonds officially released her lead single in November, she announced that the album was not coming out until April, a whole 5 months after the single. She's releasing a new single every month until the album comes out. Imagine if Gaga did this with her next album.

- 5 singles (with music videos) before the album even comes out.

- The singles would create more hype for the album

- No one has bought the album yet so every single would have the support of the fans that lead singles generally do

- When the album finally comes out, even if it underperforms, we already have 5 singles out, so she can choose to go right on tour if that's what she wants. And if it is successful, she can continue putting out singles. It's all up to her.

- Either way we will avoid the 3 single-2 music video death of ARTPOP  :cryga:

I think it's a win-win situation and a great idea! What about you?

Beyonce dud opposite of this strategy. Dhe released ZERO songs before the album release. This worked to sell a bunch of albums. No one will care about the album release after five or six singles are released.

I think the music can market itself tho.. Beyonce did it. And tbh I just want more music videos :toofunny:

I guess... but I think a leak should happen around the release of the 3rd single to create even more hype. Then the album and other possible singles. She just needs more hype for the GP to get interested.

How on earth would a 2 month early leak help the album :lmao:

No, there is a real danger the hype would die pre-album. Plus radio can only handle one single every 3 months.

Lily Alllen had multiple pre-album singles before her last album, including a UK #1 about 5 months before followed by several flops.

Well as I see it doesn't work at all for Marina  :coffee: And Gaga can't do this .Marina is not a mainstream artist so her singles don't have commercial success..If Gaga did something like this half of those singles would flop because they would be blocked from the previous hit single (that came one month before them)

justin bieber did it in like 2012 didn't he? also all of these http://adage.com/article/digitalnext/music-marketing-2014/295949/

i agree with most of your OP, i just hate marketing tricks. when gaga was asked about beyoncé's marketing strategy she said something about how the focus should be on the music itself and the level of creative freedom available to the artist
