Don't believe this, for starters it's not even Christmas Eve yet in the US, that's tonight and the article says it happened then

Also, I can't at the african-americans playing the victim here, I guess they haven't figured out they are the ones who keep racism alive by constantly drawing attention to their colour, history and the fact they are still different... Maybe if they'd start to see themselves as equal things would get better... It's not like the kid was shot cuz he's black, he probably did something that warranted it, if this had been a white kid it wouldn't blow up in the media and his skin colour wouldn't matter,, it's them that make this all about race

I think they need to start retraining police on how to deal with situations like this and what they're allowed to do and stuff like that. And I think they need to start educating the public on what to do when confronted by a police officer, like what your legal rights are and what you can do. 

 

This incident sounds like it was excessive force but why did the teen refuse to do what the police officer said? I'll wait for more details and the video to be released before saying anything else about this. All I know is that the world is such a messy place.

@ your second comment... so far we have information that says that he did not get on the ground when the police officer asked him. That is not grounds for a fatal shooting, MAYBE not even a warning shot, Police should be trained in detaining individuals without resorting to lethal force -- he could have tazed him or something else... Also the reports saying that ambulances were not immediately called... At least look up things

I didn't say anything about if they should've shot, but they are making it all about race, which is stupid... If a cop shoots someone there's always the possibility you'll die cuz the can't anticipate what move you're going to make, so if they want to shoot you in the leg and you duck and they hit you in the head it's an accident... Tazing is dangerous as hell as well, if you have heart problems you will likely die from tazing as well... Also, Christmas eve is not the entire day.....it's called Eve for a reason

This is the same logic that people use to say that gay people should not be openly "queer" or flamboyant if they want equality because it makes them stand out from the rest of society... because "normalcy" and conformity are the only acceptable ways

 

The "race-card" is played in situations where it matters... institutionalized racism exists and in fact there will be no true "equality" if we as a society do not take the time to sit down a--lyze and CORRECT these instances. One huge sign that this exists could be the fact that black teens are more likely to die than white teens despite an overwhelmingly higher amount of white teens

education, social environment, etc... Even though they are most likely the results of racism in the past it doesn't have anything to do with race right now....those are problems that have to solve themselves over the next couple of decades

This news story hasn't even exploded yet, we dont even know all of the details yet, let alone public reactions... so so far its isolated amounts of outrage (though spreading). I think its too soon to say "they are making it all about race" (and for the record there is SOME of this that relates to race perception in the country)

 

Unless these details are wrong, regardless of race*, the cop should not be shooting people who pose no threat, are not violent/do not physically fight back, and are simply agitated. At least in other recent cases there was some talk of "he reached for my gun", bs or not it gives cause... so far in this case it literally looks like he just didnt get on the ground, the cop shot the kid for not complying, and the friend on the ground was told to stay on the ground AS -(or after, kind of hard to ascertain.. hopefully we will get video soon) he shot Antonio. 

 

"Tasers can be dangerous" is not a good excuse to not try them :koons: Sometimes literally just taking someone down to the groun can cause a heart attack, break bones, asthma attack, or any kind of injury that COULD potentially be fatal, but its all about the intention and rationality. Those are accidental deaths. There are also warning shots --- like shooting to the side of him to let him know that you are serious, you dont even have to shoot him in the leg, but a police officer should be proficient enough with a gun to be able to shoot someone in the leg, or even better the foot (which is even further from the head/chest  :koons:)

 

The odds of someone reacting... RIGHT before the shot happens in a position that his head comes down all the way to his legs and he is shot in the head, or some other similar scenario are very slim, and again would be an accidental death; however, yet again the intention was not to shoot fatally, so it would be tragic but "understandable" in a legal and social sense.

 

There have been mere hundreds of taser-related deaths in America, and I can't currently say how many of those are due to excessive tasering.... I would posit that more people definitely die of gun shots though

the official police report said that as he walked up to the two teens, Antonio pulled a gun on him. The cops account and the teen who lived's account are in complete opposition to each other. We have no idea until further investigation commences.
