Police Issues and Racial Profiling Protest Discussion

But the chances of an Aurora (12 people died, 70 injured) or Sandy Hook (26 killed) happening from a single crazy person would be significantly diminished. A crazy person with a knife gives multiple victims a better chance of survival and gives the police or security a better opportunity to stop the attack.

These mass shootings, that are now occurring fairly frequently, usually involve a single shooter and are over in a matter of a short time period. Remove guns as an option, and you will have less casualties, in these everyday situations. (like theatres, restaurants, schools, colleges, places of work, etc.)

Perhaps mass shootings have increased, but firearm homicides have been down for a long time according to stats

Make it harder for minors and those suffering from mental illness to get access to guns. And those with mental illness are poorly treated and accounted for. Tackle the source

Homicide is down, because crime is down overall in the US. (There is a whole cause/effect theory on this, that has basically been proven as much as it can be, but I don't know if it would cause a mess here...so I won't go into that.) Meanwhile, there has been a sharp rise in mass shootings since 2000.

In the past 13 years, 486 people have been killed in mass shootings, with 366 of the deaths in the past seven years Just two of the 160 shootings involved more than one gunman. Roughly 45 percent of the shootings occurred in offices or stores, and about 25 percent at schools or universities. In 44 of the 64 cases in which the F.B.I. was able to determine the length of the shooting, the gunfire lasted less than five minutes. Twenty-three shootings ended in less than two minutes.

I absolutely agree with MUCH stricter background checks, for all citizens. Also, I agree with the restriction of certain types of guns and ammunition, including quantity controls.

Interesting piece - whites opinion on Ferguson vs NY cases is quite different, while blacks view them the same.

With more info, whites tend to support the Ferguson decision more and oppose the NY decision more.

guns have always been legal in the us to obtain right? why have there been so many mass shootings recently? what has changed? is population growth a factor in someway? has it always been going on but the media is just more on top of things these days? are we just getting crazier and crazier out here for some reason?

only thing i can say is it would suck to have my gun taken away and be even more of an easy target for these savage ass people out here. and if you take away guns these assholes will just have another product to smuggle into the country like they do with c-----e. i dont think mexico would be smuggling guns into the us as much because i've heard their guns actually come from the US mainly(could be BS though). i wonder if a gun ban would open the door for russian gun smugglers. then we'd have to worry about the canadian border just as much as the border with mexico.

has anyone ever taken the test like they have in switzerland that determine if you're  disqualified due to being psychologically unfit for gun ownership? what kinds of questions do they ask? is it a form you fill out or is there more to it?

I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it.

Anyone heard about Andrew Hawkins, a player for the Cleveland Browns? Police in Cleveland are asking him to apologize for walking out on the field dressed like this:

nfl_g_hawkins_300x300.jpg

“It’s pretty pathetic when athletes think they know the law," he said. "They should stick to what they know best on the field. The Cleveland Police protect and serve the Browns stadium and the Browns organization owes us an apology.†says Jeff Follmer, of the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Assoc. These are his literal words for the situation.

They really want this man to apologize for being outraged over senseless killings in the area he plays for. It's all fun and games because he plays for you, but the moment he goes against the grain and does something that makes you uncomfortable, it's wrong. We're great because we play for you, but we're still thugs on the street. Sickening. Further proves that there is a really big issue some Officers have for citizens.

It's like they get a hard-on for hurting and violating people, but still try to play victim when people show outrage.

12/15/14: Hawkins refused to apologize. Good.

I've seen several stories of police asking athletes to apologize over this stuff. It's so sick how the people causing these travesties are the same that turn around and demand to play victim.

Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

Don't understand why he'd kill him. He could have wounded him. Or tasered him. What was the point in killing him over a hunch? I call bull **** and if this police officer doesn't get charged with at least negligence, America deserves the **** storm that's about to erupt...

Exactly, people wouldn't be so anti-police right now if they'd start equalizing who they stopped on the streets to be questioned and arrested.  Non-white people are far more likely to be stopped and that's one of the major problems that the police won't ever understand.

On a side note, I think it's completely irresponsible of the media and average social media users to pass around these "good cop" posts.  I don't care if a policeman hugged a black kid.  That's not the issue.  The issue isn't that ALL cops are bad.  Obviously.  The problem is that these idiot cops are getting away with brutality.  If everyone were to look deeply into this, they'd find a lot of corruption in the police forces around the country.  Go YouTube and Google it now.  It's despicable.

Agreed with all of this.

With the bolded part in your post: Allegedly that photo was staged... notice how it was plastered everywhere on social media, though. :fail:
