Police Issues and Racial Profiling Protest Discussion

I didn't say UK or German. I said worldwide. Yes it is more abundant in the United States, but does it only happen there? No.

I agree, I was just saying that the US isn't the only place where it happens at :P But yea, I wish it was more strict with laws, especially gun laws..

Countries like North Korea, Colombia, Russia and Mexico have police as agressive. All first world countries are ahead of the US with this..

He's right tho, its really f*cked up. You'll never hear about hoe a 3 year old killed his mother with a gun because the parents were negligents in europe :madge:

Destiny is for losers. It’s just a stupid excuse to wait for things to happen instead of making them happen

Because the parents were negligent. Not because they owned a gun. Responsibility is the key.

I personally think so many people here should not own guns. I'll probably never own a gun either and I don't know anyone who does. But people in small rural towns where the nearest police station is 20 minutes away should be allowed to own a gun in case of some emergency  It's not "fuked up" to me that you can purchase one in a store. Guns are used for hunting too in some areas.

I think there should be stricter gun laws. And btw, Switzerland has a high gun ownership rate too. How are they doing? I assume better than the US since I don't hear of shootings. But I'm sure you can tell me more about that since you live in Europe and know the overall opinion on them.

If there was no gun in the first place, there would be no death. The easy access to guns in the US cause more deaths, so frankly i wouldn't feel safe nor protected knowing that anyone can get a gun for "protection"

Hunting is different, here in Europe you can get a gun to hunt, but you have to be qualified and you need a certificate in order to purchase one. That's what i call responsabilty..

Yeah, the easy access does permit more gun sales. Which is why I support more regulations. But in cases of negligence specifically, I would not blame the tool. You can't fix stupid.

Btw, I edited my earlier post. I wanna know what you think.

Well in Switzerland the gun laws are different than the US. First of all what you need to know about Switerzland its that a vast majority of the men go to the army and they are trained and they actually train with guns.. my best friend is Swiss and he signed up for the army last year.. its a good way to make some money and put your studies on hold if you're not certain of what you want to do (kinda like a gap year) anyway.. Most of them know how to work with a gun. You can have a gun but you're not allowed to keep the ammunitions.. To get a gun you also need a carrying permit and to get this carrying permit you must have over 18 pass a few examinations to prove you're not psychiatrically disqualified or that you're not a danger to the society, your criminal record must be clear and you must pass a test that proves that you have the skills to use a gun and also the laws involved about ownership of weapons.

so Yeah its true that Switerzland's gun ownership rates are high, but in order to get one you, you prove you're qualified.

Similar in the US, but I can't really say since different states have different procedures. But the federal age is 21, I believe. But they're not enforced strong enough here.

I'm sure they're better carried out in Switzerland though and seeing as many go to the military, they should be responsible. Thanks for the info. since I didn't know a lot about it.

Tbh, I don't know how to obtain a gun in my state :laughga:

I think its the ammunitions part that prevent such disasters perhaps ? You can only carry a loaded gun if you have a special carrying permit that is often given to citizens who work on security fields..

Oh, yeah. Because here people who own guns can buy ammunition. They passed laws back in the 90's to reduce the magazine sizes but I don't remember what happened to that.

The issue in this country is that even though most people want strong gun regulation laws, the proposals get nowhere because Congress is controlled by lobbyists and interest groups. The NRA is so powerful that they will scare politicians into not approving gun laws or else they will lose their campaign support. Also, the NRA has succeeded to (in many people) to make them think that stronger gun control = taking away everyone's guns (and rights, 2nd amendment), which is NOT true. These people are made to believe that somehow the government is trying to destroy them. There's talks of a national gun registration database (Idk if they have something like that in Europe) and people just said NO.

It's also not a Republican vs. Democrats issue seeing as both parties are full of politicians that do nothing about the issue. Just last year the Senate struck down a bill that would make gun laws stricter.

In the absence of firearms, people would just find other means to protect themselves or attack others.

Murder and death would still occur as it did before guns were invented.

I totally agree, but if the regulamention and gun laws in the US were better, there would be less accidents and less deaths..

Thats true but u wouldn't see 9 year olds going to a shooting range and accidentally shooting the instructor. Nor would more events of that kind (like school shootings, which seem like a monthly normality in the US) occur.

If u really want to kill someone u'll get the job done no matter I agree but it would reduce accidents and not-plannend gun murders.

But the chances of an Aurora (12 people died, 70 injured) or Sandy Hook (26 killed) happening from a single crazy person would be significantly diminished. A crazy person with a knife gives multiple victims a better chance of survival and gives the police or security a better opportunity to stop the attack.

These mass shootings, that are now occurring fairly frequently, usually involve a single shooter and are over in a matter of a short time period. Remove guns as an option, and you will have less casualties, in these everyday situations. (like theatres, restaurants, schools, colleges, places of work, etc.)
