It's really easy to make the police officer seem criminal because we now know it's a fake gun. He did not know that at the time. Do you really think he should have just let the kid reach for the gun? Imagine this were at a school, and how shaken America is by school shootings; it's totally possible the kids gun was real, and that he intended to hurt someone.

In addition, the store owner said no one called the police and nothing was stolen. Intoxicated on marijuana? That means Michael could not have even been able to react quickly to be violent. Marijuana causes dizziness, shallow breathing, and slowed reaction time. Darren Wilson literally arrested a man just for being filmed. The autopsy found that Darren shot Michael in his arm while Michael had his arms up, then continued to shoot him as he fell to the floor. In addition, Michael was far away from harming Darren. Ferguson protestors have been peacefully protesting, however cops opened fire on them with rubber bullets. This is actually against the first amendment, which allows freedom of speech and the right to assemble. Just in case you are unaware, rubber bullets can easily be lethal and/or cause serious injury. Really, all the eyewitnesses have sided with Darren? Not from all of this evidence (x, x.) No. People of color are killed by officers and face much more discrimination. In fact, they face seven times more discrimination by police officers than whites. NYPD profiling and targeting LGBT*Q people of color. Black students are given much worse punishments in school and in the criminal justice system. Albany Police: SWAT uses a poor black neighborhood to train in because it is “realistic.†A black man holding a wallet is more likely to be shot than a white man holding a gun. Really? Blacks kill blacks? Every twenty-eight hours an African American is extrajudicially executed in the US, almost one African American killed everyday by law enforcement, security guards, and/or vigilantes.

I am not ignorant. I have been doing my research and keeping up with everything that has been happening. Racism is alive and we cannot keep pretending it is not a problem little one. I hope these articles help you out with the misinformation you have been given.

 

I'm sorry but that is the furthest thing from well-researched.

 

Most of those articles come from complete assumptions by people with no expertise in any of the matters.

 

The 145 feet article for instance makes a big deal out of literally nothing. The grand jury photos clearly show that they presented it as 145 feet distance. The 35 feet statement was probably just a simple mistake or maybe he meant yards who knows. What we do know is that the Grand Jury knew the exact distance, and those people wasted hours of their lives proving nothing.

Hi straight male weighing in on all of this. You're white, yes? I'm just guessing so because you're displaying what is known generally as 'straight white male privilege'. Sorry if you are in fact a person of colour, you just seem like you feel very entitled.

 

First of all, sorry if news of the injustice is being covered by social media. Protesters generally are protesting for a reason. Something as unjust as this would spark a reaction like this, when this injustice isn't just about the death of a black person but of the day to day injustice that these people face everyday. So yeah, my apologies if their reaction is being covered by the news and people on your facebook.

 

So, you want them to sit down? Ok. An 18 year old's body left in the street for over four hours after being shot six times. How about we all sit down, anybody want some tea, some cake?

Following an uproar on social media, a viciously racist blog post was removed from The Times of Israel. Titled “Nine Parallels between Palestine and Ferguson,†the post attacked African American protestors in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson and Palestinians as violent, “savage,†irrationally “angry†and deserving of the institutionalized state violence wielded against them.

In the now-deleted post, the writer, Robert Wilkes, a member of the advisory board and media response team at StandWithUs, embraces the increasingly popular comparison between Ferguson and Palestine. But Wilkes does so by proudly likening anti-Palestinian Jewish Israelis to American police, the real victims according to him.

The post was removed despite its author being defended as an “amazing guy†by a staffer at StandWithUs, a right-wing group that works closely with the Israeli government.

A grand jury cleared a white New York City police officer Wednesday in the videotaped chokehold death of an unarmed black man who had been stopped on suspicion of selling loose, untaxed cigarettes, a lawyer for the victim's family said.

The decision in Staten Island not to indict Officer Daniel Pantaleo threatened to add to the tensions that have simmered in the city since the July 17 death of Eric Garner - a case that sparked outrage and drew comparisons to the fatal police shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.

Jonathan Moore, an attorney for Garner's family, said he was told of the grand jury's decision."I am actually astonished based on the evidence of the video tape, and the medical examiner, that this grand jury at this time wouldn't indict for anything, is really just astonishing," Moore said.

The Staten Island District Attorney's office didn't immediately respond to a call. There was no immediate comment from Pantaleo's attorney nor the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association, a union that has strongly backed the officer.The grand jury could have considered a range of charges, from murder to a lesser offense such as reckless endangerment.

A video shot by an onlooker and widely viewed on the Internet showed the 43-year-old Garner telling a group of police officers to leave him alone as they tried to arrest him.Pantaleo responded by wrapping his arm around Garner's neck in an apparent chokehold, which is banned under NYPD policy. The heavyset Garner, who had asthma, was heard repeatedly gasping, "I can't breathe!" A second video surfaced that showed police and paramedics appearing to make no effort to revive Garner while he lay motionless on the ground. He later died at a hospital.

As with Brown's death in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson, the Garner case sparked protests, accusations of racist policing and calls for federal prosecutors to intervene. But unlike the Missouri protests, the demonstrations in New York remained mostly peaceful. The case also prompted Police Commissioner William Bratton to order officers at the nation's largest police department to undergo retraining on use of force.The medical examiner ruled Garner's death a homicide and found that a chokehold contributed to it. A forensic pathologist hired by Garner's family, Dr. Michael Baden, agreed with those findings, saying there was hemorrhaging on Garner's neck indicative of neck compressions.

Police union officials and Pantaleo's lawyer have argued that the officer used a takedown move taught by the police department, not a chokehold, because he was resisting arrest and that Garner's poor health was the main reason he died.While details on the grand jurors were not disclosed, Staten Island is the most politically conservative of the city's five boroughs and home to many police and firefighters. The panel began hearing evidence in late September, including the video, autopsy results and testimony by Pantaleo.

Pantaleo had been stripped of his gun and badge and placed on desk duty while the case was under investigation. He is likely to remain on modified duty while the NYPD conducts an internal investigation that could result in administrative charges.
