They coudl have used loudspeakers, he was probably scared and didn't know what to do, it's a 12 years old kid for god's sake. And no they didn't do their job, the caller did say the gun is probably fake twice, but they chose to discard that information and just shoot him. And even if it was a real gun, they should handle the situation differently. No one was put at risk, the park was empty. I think the US still didn't distance itself from its ugly racist past, sadly. this is what happens when you have country where every dumb person can get as many guns as they please. It takes less than one minute to shoot someone. So yes, when he reached for the gun in less then one minute, he was going to be shot in less than one minute. The person who gave the kid the fake gun should be held responsible. Maybe the dispatcher didn't do his/her job. The officers did though. If it was a real gun what should they have done? So yes, when he reached for the gun in less then one minute, he was going to be shot in less than one minute. The person who gave the kid the fake gun should be held responsible. Deputy Chief Edward Tomba confirmed today that the officer shot the African-American pre-teen just "1 ½-2 seconds" after arriving at the scene. A police spokesman said, "Upon arrival on scene, officers located the suspect and advised him to raise his hands. The suspect did not comply with the officers' orders and reached to his waistband for the gun. Shots were fired and the suspect was struck in the torso." The gun in question was a toy, not unlike the BB gun fellow Ohio resident, 22-year-old John Crawford, was carrying in a Wal-Mart when he was gunned down by officers earlier this year. According to the Police Chief, Loehmann claims he ordered Rice to raise his hands three three times by yelling from the passenger seat of the cop car as they approached. The gun wasn't concealed. He didn't point the gun at anyone or have his finger on the trigger. You can see his hands the whole time. And then he puts the gun on the ground next to him. I guarantee you that if he had lowered that weapon at someone he would've been shot. If he found the gun in the park then he wouldn't have known it was fake. I'm not sure how that's even relevant, as whoever left it in the park then should hold the responsibility. I still am confused, being told to put your hands up three times seems reasonable. It's not like the passenger seat makes the request less serious, is it? And it only took him 1.5-2 seconds to reach his hands into his waist band after the cops arrived. You can see his hands the whole time. Tamir didn't point either, neither his fingers were on the trigger. Maybe he wanted to show the gun was fake or take it out and put it on the ground? Shouting from a moving car 30 sec before you pull over and shoot him TWICE is really professional. This old white man had more chance to shoot someone when he was drunk and holding AK-47 than the black boy with toy gun under shirt. It looks like the boy drops before the officer gets out of the car, then the officer shoots him again (once he's stood by the bonnet) then continues to circle the boy with his gun ready? This particular case is so completely non race based and the evidence proves it. However, I'm glad that conversations are finally occurring based off where I am to address some of the problems that exist in these communities and with actual racist law enforcement. I truly don't think Darren Wilson was racist in his situation with Michael Brown. If it were a white or brown man or whatever who acted the way brown did with a police officer, they would've met the same unfortunate end because what's a police officer to do when someone reaches into their cop car, threatens them, and then charges them down. idk but based off the evidence and the witness testimony, wilson was not some corrupt, racist police officer, but someone who had to face a threat.
