Woolfsmck has me thinking. What would happen if Palestinians ceased violence?

Me too.   In fact, they could bring to the forefront the illegal actions by the Jewish radicals.....

Woolfsmck has me thinking. What would happen if Palestinians ceased violence? Settlements would still happen of course but it's true that if Palestinians stop reacting to violence with violence it's actually in their best interest in the end because Israel and its defenders won't have any good arguments left.

Sadly too many people benefit from discord, I guess..

I read somewhere that they achieved more in first and second intifada than in times of peace, like removing settlements from Gaza. But I can't find the source rn.

Well, in that time I can understand but in this age of independent journalism, social media and the internet in general, I think they'd benefit more with a silent rebellion, personally. I mean, even the peace proposals Palestine has don't fool anyone. It's unconditional, temporary and suspicious. That's not a good look.

Ugh, it's all such a mess

Before these knife attacks there were numerous attacks by settlers and idf random shootings at fishermen and protestors. Many times those stories were shared on social media but there was almost nothing in Western mainstream media. I think they just lost their patience because whole world doesn't really give a ****. And many of them are really young. I think older Palestinians like 40+ have more wisdom.

I'm also not for these attacks, especially against civilians, but I'm not living there either so I can't say why this all started now.

River

I don't think any of the politicians wants peace.

Netanyahu needs this conflict to stay prime minster and rich, he's doing what the **** he wants.. all he needs to say "bad arabs, terror, Iran" and he gets he's votes, in return he's doing some mini wars every few months (usually on holidays when the kids are at home..)

Hamas and Fataj leaders are enjoying the money that they get from other islamic countries, donations, UN, they are rich, enjoying life.. all they have to say it's "bad zionist, occupation, Palestinian is ours, go fight for the land" and that's it they get support, the poor people who have nothing left go to kill israelis, or at least trying, they give them the title shahid, like a little candy to the homeless, and the cycle go on and on..

Peace = bye bye to the good life.

Palestinian attacks fueled by settler violence, senior Israeli commander says

Former West Bank division commander testifies in court against right-wing extremists.

Right-wing violence in the West Bank is one of the causes of Palestinian terror,” a senior Israel Defense Forces officer told a court on Thursday.

“Some of the motivation of the Palestinians to carry out terror attacks is due to the violence of right-wing elements in the West Bank,” the director of the IDF operations directorate, Maj. Gen. Nitzan Alon, said in testimony at a trial about incitement on the Hakol Hayehudi (The Jewish Voice) website.

Alon came to testify as the former commander of the Judea and Samaria Division and the head of Central Command, in a trial against Avraham Binyamin and Yehoshua Hess, who are accused of being the editors and owners of Hakol Hayehudi, based in the settlement of Yitzhar, where they publicized words of violence and incitement. The two deny the accusation.

Alon was brought as an expert on Jewish violence in the West Bank and its effect on the security situation in the region. In his testimony he said that incidents of Israeli violence are linked to Palestinian violence. “In my understanding there are many reasons for Palestinian violence, some of them related to the murderous behavior of the terrorists, some related to religious and nationalistic motives, and a certain part, not the main part, that is related to revenge activity due to the activity of Israelis against Palestinians,” said Alon.

Attorney Yitzhak Bam asked whether IDF violence is the reason for Palestinian violence. Alon replied that “the Palestinians, for them IDF activities in which Palestinians are hurt serve as another issue encouraging and causing terror activities. They differentiate between the activities of soldiers and those of settlers, but for them both are occupation.”

Alon said that “a significant part of Israeli violence against Palestinians stems from Palestinian violence against Israelis. Some of the incidents are revenge for terror or violence.”

Regarding criticism of him and the demonstrations against him, Alon said, “There were several attempts to demonstrate in front of my house, I don’t know where the residents were from and they didn’t influence me at all.”

He said that he did not read Hakol Hayehudi regularly, and denied that he was testifying against the site because they wrote that his wife was a member of the Machsom Watch anti-occupation group or because they called the violent incidents “the Nitzan Alon intifada.”

According to the indictment, the website posts “systematically included incitement to violence and racism against Israeli and Palestinian Arabs ... claiming that Arabs are hated, murderers, violent, wild animals, rioters, evil, brazen, terrorists, abusive, cruel, harassers, criminals, hostile and an enemy.”

It's a pity that Islam didn't have the ethical/spiritual resources to produce a leader like Gandhi or Martin Luther King. The Prophet conquered by the sword; Christians only started doing that centuries after Jesus (and his more pacifistic teachings).

Maybe too late now. It's hard to make non-violent protest work unless pretty much everyone on your side is willing to be non-violent. If it had been tried back in the 60's or 70's though?

Or if the Palestinians wanted to use terrorist tactics, maybe they would have played it smarter being more like the Irish republican Army - who didn't go all out, tried to avoid harming civilians, and thus didn't make the British hate Irish Catholics as mass killers.

http://exiledonline.com/wn-38-ira-vs-al-qaeda-i-was-wrong/

"What I wrote back in 2005, praising Al Qaeda for going all out and sneering at the IRA for pulling its punches, was stupid. Totally wrong. Typical loudmouthed crap by a hick who hadn’t thought hard enough about guerrilla strategy.

The only thing I can say in defense of that 2005 article is that I had the facts right; I just read them wrong. By “the facts” I mean the basic difference between the IRA’s strategy and Al Qaeda’s: The IRA never used all its strength, played very cautiously, did just enough mayhem to remind Britain they were still around, hadn’t been broken. ..."

I don't see how Martin Luther king is related to that ?? Maybe you mean Martin Luther?

Either way Gandhi wasn't the best either. He was highly racist and s-xist.

Martin Luther was a ****ing criminal :air: One of the most dreadful Christian "heroes" of all time.

Yes :rip: A lot of Europe's anti-semitism is also based on him :smh:
