Hexxx 2,244
that's also true, it needed some of the edginess of bionic. but i wouldn't indicate generic as a bad thing. ARTPOP's a fun album!yeah it's a fun album and i can see why fans like it, but it just wasn't BOLD like her past work Lady Gaga/ Madonna/Lana /Azealia Banks/ Jazmine Sullivan/ DEEE-LITE/ Moko

gagzus 15,831
ARTPOP could've been the best album ever if...It wasn't genericit wasn't generic though, it wasn't full on experimental bjork-esque but it was hardly generic, by Gaga's standards it was definitely somewhat experimental with a pop twist because full on EDM music didn't gain hype until recently, although it was already kinda big here in Europe. it was mainly EDM with influences from Rock, R&B & Disco, with like two partially Pop songs (Gypsy & Applause) and one acoustic/stripped song. The popular EDM music on the radio is currently House but at the time was a Dance-Pop hybrid and a few R&B/Acoustic songs. Dance-Pop is pop with dance influences, EDM is dance, techno, trap, complextro, house, trance, dubstep, drum & bass, garage and many many more. If you want a run down of the songs & the genre they mainly belong to;Aura - ComplextroVenus - Dance with disco influencesG.U.Y. - Dance & House hybridSexxx Dreams - Rhythmic/Groove MANiCURE - Dance with Rock & Trap influencesJ&D - Trap & Hip-HopDWUW - R&B & Dance with Disco influencesSwine - Dance & DubstepARTPOP - TranceDonatella - Dance with some HouseFashion! - Dance & DiscoMary Jane Holland - Hardstyle with Dance & Dubstep influencesDope - Acoustic Rock/BalladGypsy - Dance-PopApplause - Electro-PopShe's used some of these influences before though, notably Hardstyle hoover synth in Bad Romance

LoveandMagic 1,731
I haven't listened to Bionic a while, but I really enjoyed it. I don't know if it's her best work. Even without superficial nonsense like charts and sales, I think most would argue that Back To Basics or Stripped are her best albums, but it simply comes down to taste. I like it, I know lots of other people hate it, but you apparently are passionate about it, so it's done the job the artist intended. :)As for Dope, I like the song overall, though I hardly ever listen to it. It has nice lyrics and a personal message. I usually wind up skipping it because it's too much of a downer for me in the album, though I would gladly trade it for Donatella if I could (not saying Donatella is necessarily bad, it's just I don't care at all for it, except the instrumental). I must confess to not knowing much about all the complex genres of music, but you seemed to have nailed it down perfectly! Bravo!! Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

The music really lacks the boldness of her past work. Songs like Aura and ARTPOP had that Gaga touch to them. there are a few songs on the album that had that but others seem very cheesy to me, Mainly Donatella. I don't hate the album its just that i wish that it was more serious. TimisaMonster 31,073
No...Gypsy was one ballad enough...Dope was a complete watered down version of IWBWY and ruined the flow of the album...If anything it needed to be replaced by an ACT II song...not Brooklyn Nights since it sounds too similar to Gypsy and would be another slow ballad Stream my new single, 💜"Heartbeat"💜, on Spotify! Dope is about her addictions & IWBWY shared similar subject matter to Gypsy, it was about her travelling the world and wondering if she could be in love & wanting to be in love with Taylor. Even though it's also about us at the same time (like Gypsy).

So Dope was made AFTER MJH was already made...so Dope could also be said to be a reductive message of MJH Nope, Mary Jane Holland is about refusing to be a pop culture slave & how being on d--gs made her feel like a totally different person, it's meant to be about the good part of what happened, but Dope is the come down afterwards (hence why it's a ballad in conjunction to the Hardstyle beat on MJH)
