No honey, you're the one who needs to stop. An artist doesn't need to have a song charting to prove that they are a good songwriter. There are MANY songwriters that write better than what's on the top 40 now, and they aren't even famous or have a record deal. Charts =/= quality

You seriously can't understand what I am saying.. I am not saying that a good song is always successful..But when you are already a mainsteam artist like Rihanna and you have so many hits and the only songs of your albums you write are the one that are never planned to be singles means that you are not a good enough song writer and your career is based on other songwriters..

My opinion is that when you don't write your songs you are not a good artist..That's what I think

LOL Just stop ..Gaga writes every of her songs, not only the songs that are not charting..I never said that a song that is not charting is bad..I said that when you write ONLY the songs in her albums that are never going to be heard on radio ,that means that you don't really count on your songwriting skills

That's an awfully close minded view to have.

An artist can be anything... Would you say that songwriters who aren't also vocalists/performers aren't talented as well in that case? Is an incredible actor that performs from a script not talented? An artist is an artist, whether you're just a singer, an instrumentalist in a band, a dancer.. whatever. To say an artist is only talented if they write a hit song is incredibly shallow. As Paper Gangsta mentioned... Whitney and Elvis never wrote songs, but they're amongst the greatest voices of all time. And you're going to try and say they have no talent? In an attempt to downplay whatever Rihanna can do? Life is bigger than stupid stan wars between pop stars.

So you are comparing Rihanna with Elvis and Whitney..? Elvis and Whitney weren't writing their songs but they were giving life to the songs...Rihanna just sings them in a generic way lol

Also according to you dancers arent talented if they arent making their own coreography

1.Yes but an artist's job IS to write his songs...Otherwise you are just like a product, they give you songs and you just sing them...

2.She hasn't written even 1 single in her whole career

1. His/her, don't be s-xist.

2. No, it isn't. By that logic, all songwriters should also sing, which isn't true.

3. Take note that Elvis, Diana Ross, Frank Sinatra and Whitney Houston barely had any work in writing their songs, but that doesn't stop them being incredible artists.

So writing songs that are on albums but not charting doesn't count as songwriting? Interesting

I guess there are about a few hundred (maybe less) songwriters in the world :giggle:

You're saying that you're not saying a song that is not charting is bad

Yet you argue that a songwriter who doesn't write for the charts are not considered songwriters because they're bad :madge:

Alrighty then

She has a good voice. But she is a bad performer and she is not a songwriter..That's why.But I think that she is far more talented than other popstars like Britney

Bad performer? Try again. Obliviously not as good as Gaga and others, but she's still incredible live. I've seen her 8 times love and she has an amazing stage presence and captivating charisma onstage. She puts on a great show, dances well, and sings amazingly. Also she has wrote many of her songs including a majority of her most critically acclaimed album Rated R :bye:

Can you bold the part in my post where I said Rihanna's talent is comparable to Elvis and Whitney? I was talking in general about your statement that - quote - "when you don't write your songs you are not a good artist". And now you're backtracking. Stop trying to discredit pop stars just because they aren't Lady Gaga. I'm not even a fan of Rihanna but come on... Credit where credit's due. She isn't exactly a natural talent but she has a unique voice and she's learnt how to use it over the past couple of years. And you can hear that in this demo and several performances.

Whispering

What talent does Whitney have that Rihanna doesnt?

You are kidding, right? Whitney is one of the best vocalists in the history of Pop music. You really don't know the difference between one of the most phenomenal voices to ever sing a Pop song and Rihanna?

I do agree with your general premise, though. A respected singer/perforner doesn't have to write their own songs.

However, they need to bring something to the table, in order to be an artist. I believe Rihanna does that.
