Also, I want to point out that I go to college in Alabama. Basically the most conservative, Republican place you can be besides Mississippi.

Well I am too so glad people will be more open-minded there

Honestly, BTW made her the stereotypical gay activist. No I don't have "reciepts" but I've heard a lot of people say this. Unless you're gay or a girl, gaga isn't for you. I have a lot of straight friends who still bop to TF gaga, but don't acknowledge anything after telephone. And honestly I can't fault them cuz aside from great songs [literally teog and Scheiße are the only songs off btw that I like] gaga has self isolated herself to a certain type of listener. She lost her cool factor. Oh well.

Hopefully she'll get it back, but if not I'll remain unbothered and still stan for her

People know I like Gaga but I try my best at times to make it seem that I'm not as much into her as I was which is only slightly true because I would check Gagapedia religiously and keep up on all the news from Poker Face to The Edge of Glory because at that time I had not internet and so yeah. I mean, I definitely feel embarassed to be listening to Gaga in public because I am self conscious and so are many people. Obviously, I don't hide my plays or anything but the only songs I let people know I listen to are Fame Monster songs, Fame singles, Judas and TEOG, and Applause and DWUW

I've always felt like the world was split into 2 categories: the Gaga fans, and the people refusing to admit they are Gaga fans :toofunny: In the end, it all comes down to the "gay stuff" - people show so much hate toward her that it really translates something deep. The thing is nobody is ever indifferent when it comes to Gaga: people who presumably don't like her music always feel the need to explain to you how MUCH they hate her and how they don't wanna have anything to do with her. I think people are ashamed of liking her because doing so could be interpreted as a form of tolerance toward queer culture.

The funny thing with DWUW is that it wasn't necessarily clear to people that this was a Gaga song. I've heard people around me saying stuff like "Oh Gosh, I love that R. Kelly song with that chick" - like, the song is so different from Gaga's usual standards that some people were actually clueless this was one of her songs.

So I agree in the sense that DWUW was actually bigger than what the charts seem to translate. However, the Gaga hate goes deeper than the quality or message of the music. I'd even say music is actually one of the things that's least taken into account by people when it comes to forging their opinion about her. As long as Gaga will remain excessively linked to queer culture, this is likely to continue. And tbh, I'm fine with that - she doesn't have to change for people to like her, it's up to people to come around ;)

I've been to loads of high school parties that have played Do What U Want. In fact, I was at a party in March and I remember hearing Just Dance. None of the kids that throw parties in my area play any pop music. Its always rap or hip hop, with the occasional Rihanna, Beyoncé, or some other pop girl song you hear. But I remember Do What U Want playing at a party and everyone went crazy! It was a big hit

Well, I don't know area you're from, but I'm sorry you got taunted. Regarding the bolded part, that just means they weren't aware of what was happening with her because she didn't have this huge lead single like she has with all of her past albums. People weren't talking about her like they did in the past. That doesn't mean she's not cool, she just didn't have enough exposure or success with her pre-album material like she did with past albums for people to really know about what she was doing. Like I said, she just wasn't really anything. She was just kind of hanging around the middle. I guess the people that you encountered did find her uncool, but my point in this thread is to say that that's not how it is with everyone. Especially with my experience. Just because there are people around you that think she's not cool doesn't mean that everyone thinks she's uncool, and I know that just because of my experience, that doesn't mean everyone likes her. But the whole point is to say that there's not this general consensus about Gaga that labels her as uncool like I think a lot of people her think. It'll vary depending on her artistry and music. I'm not meaning to start any arguments, I just wanted to point out that it's not a unanimous thing to hate Gaga.

You're not starting any arguments don't worry :)

And naturally it isn't like the world hates Gaga.. Her notoriety lately just hasn't been as big as it used to be.

I love Lady Gaga, have done for years. I'm not, and never have been, "cool".  Isn't that the point about her? She's the nerdy kid made good.  By rights, she's not going to attract fans who want to be "cool", she's for the outsiders and the alienated.

Of course, a few years ago the world went "Gaga Crazy" in a way not really seen before, but that was a freaky occurance.

Says who? This reminds me of same GREAT words of advice I got once.

I was going to go see some movie... I commented to my pal that I wanted to see it, but I had heard all the critics panned it as being awful/boring/etc.

What my friend said next really kind of was profound, and I've thought about a lot since when similar issues rise.

"Who cares what all those critics said about the movie? You want to see the movie, GO SEE THE MOVIE. You could find you LOVE it, it's hysterical, or there's something in it you like. Don't cut yourself off from something you wanted to go see, just because some jerk decided it didn't fit their standards of Oscar material."

--Said my friend, Terry Baylor.

So, in answer the to thread title of this thread... I don't care what some person's standard of cool is. :nick:
