Enhsa 2,043
In 2008, Lady Gaga was the best popstar in the world. In 2009, Lady Gaga was the best popstar in the world. In 2010, Lady Gaga was the best popstar in the world. In 2011, Lady Gaga was the best popstar in the world. In 2012, Lady Gaga was the best popstar in the world. In 2013, Lady Gaga was still just about the best popstar in the world. In 2014, Lady Gaga released a jazz album.   Except actually it wasnĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂąt really a Lady Gaga jazz album. A Lady Gaga jazz album would have seen Lady Gaga doing to jazz what Lady Gaga did to pop: identifying the best bits, inventing some even better bits, turning the whole thing inside out and thrilling the world. Lady GagaĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂąs Tony Bennett duets album Ă¹ùâÂŹĂĆCheek To CheekĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂą was not something that conformed to GagaĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂąs brand values at all. When you consider how experimental, avant-garde and breathtakingly insane jazz can be, and when you consider how incendiary it could have been to add Lady Gaga to the mix, the album she released was almost offensively pedestrian. We kept reading things about Ă¹ùâÂŹĂĆCheek To CheekĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂą being a brave move. It didnĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂąt sound very brave to us. WhatĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂąs brave about releasing an album of easy listening covers for the Q4 market? This said, Gaga got to make an album she could be truly passionate about, and as anyone who follows her on Twitter will tell you, she was thrilled by the good reviews the album received from esteemed critics. WhereĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂąs the harm in that? tumblr_ln7niiKbEP1qdvwcpo1_r1_500 Several years ago Lady Gaga made a promise: POP MUSIC WILL NEVER BE LOWBROW. ItĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂąs hard to see where this fits in with Ă¹ùâÂŹĂĆCheek To CheekĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂą, an album through which Lady Gaga was apparently attempting to be taken seriously, in certain circles, for the first time. The idea, in so far as we could understand it, was that Ă¹ùâÂŹĂĆCheek To CheekĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂą would allow GagaĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂąs true artistry to shine through. WeĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂąre not sure thatĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂąs the Lady Gaga we fell in love with. The Lady Gaga we fell in love with would say Ă¹ùâÂŹĂ â**** YOUĂ¹ùâÂŹ to anyone who only took her seriously when she adhered to conservative notions of talent and artistry. SheĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂąd say Ă¹ùâÂŹĂ â**** YOUĂ¹ùâÂŹ to anyone who considered Ă¹ùâÂŹĂĆBad RomanceĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂą, Ă¹ùâÂŹĂĆAlejandroĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂą or Ă¹ùâÂŹĂĆPoker FaceĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂą somehow unworthy of rigorous critical attention simply because they were pop songs. And sheĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂąd say Ă¹ùâÂŹĂ â**** YOUĂ¹ùâÂŹ to anyone who finally complimented her on her vocal talents just because they were being used away from a drum machine. Maybe we got her wrong at the start. Maybe she was using pop to get somewhere else, when we thought she was using pop to make pop a better place. Maybe the Gaga we thought we fell in love with never really existed at all. Actually thatĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂąs bollocks. WeĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂąre absolutely sure she did exist. And while some have written her off, we also feel with complete certainty that the Lady Gaga who once ruled the planet will one day exist again. WeĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂąre not sure when thatĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂąll be, but we do know that sheĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂąd have been back in the game a lot sooner if sheĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂąd taken a year off instead of releasing Ă¹ùâÂŹĂĆCheek To CheekĂ¹ùâÂŹĂąâÂą.  Source: http://www.popjustice.com/briefing/2014-a-z-j-is-for-jazz-album/133283/#ixzz3MYw7qtMH Follow us: @Popjustice on Twitter | popjustice on Facebook

LibraLove 1,279
Lord. She is doing what she wants with her life, career and artistry. Why can't people just accept that instead of downing her because she's not doing what they want or living up to exactly their standards. She is a person. liberacorpus 5
I'm totally opposed to every statement. Gaga is an artist. Being a tremendous pop star and making quality pop shouldn't forbid her from trying other genres, especially the one she is a hardcore fan of as she was introduced with jazz in early ages of her artistic development.  being an artist is being able to change constantly, it requires to change constantly, and we all know gaga as an artist. the music she made in 2008 and the one she made in 2011 or 2013 was't the same, either! and jazz, jazz is the core of an energy she needed for a long time. LET HER BE THE ARTIST and DO NOT TRY TO CONTROL HER IDENTITY
Essence 244
If the Jazz album is out of the blue for Gaga...then isn't she actually sticking with the "Gaga" trend? To surprise and to be consistently inconsistent in a polarizing way? Sounds to me like she's following her artistic path as she always has and people find something to complain about as they always have and always will.
