The performances aren't pre-taped, I've attended the lighting the last 4 years and they always perform and light the tree on the same night. Gaga and Tony are recording their performances tomorrow night. The rest are being taped on Tuesday, and then the show is airing Wednesday. Not sure when the actual lighting is. I was even hoping Gaga could flip the switch to light the tree, like she pressed the button to drop the New Year's ball. :) I don't know if this has been answered yet but it's something you can get tickets to. I have tickets (1iota actually came through!
