If, in fact, the UK introduces a quota system to restrict the number of foreigners coming from other EU countries, then the UK should be immediately expelled from the EU, and all the british emigrants in other european countries should be repatriated instantly. In Portugal, we are facing a severe crisis and higher rates of unemployment than the UK, AND WE NEVER EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT A STUPID IDEA like that one. And yes, we also have a LOT of immigrants. I'm utterly shocked that you blame the immigrants for something like that. It really upsets me, and it shows me that the UK deserves no respect, since there are a LOT OF BRITISH HOSPITALS AND HEALTHCARE COMPANIES that come to Portugal to recruit our nurses and medical staff, since they are recognized as having one of the best education and trainning at global level. People often migrate here for free healthcare which puts a massive strain on the ststem because they NEVER pay back the national health insurance. Not to mention the polish & eastern european migrants that work in bottom end jobs, flooding the system. They get the jobs because they work illegally for less than minimum wage. This means taxes are avoided. More strain on the country. Then we have to realise that in the current state of unemployment we cannot afford these practices to continue. If you have nothing to offer or are going to milk the system then stay out. Im entirely against the conservatives, but we must have a realistic view of this. Only if you've witnessed the unemployment (I worked in dwp from 08 - 10) or employment (recruitment in 12) or if you've watched the country slowly lose it's identity, can you really judge this. It's a sad state of affairs when we're told we aren't allowed to say "no".It's mainly in English cities. I mean cities like Glasgow is mainly Scottish people I dont know if I get your point... You do realize that these immigrants are employed by YOUR people, so it means that you're basically doing it to yourself. This practice is illegal everywhere, even in the countries they came from. I dont know if I get your point... all the situations that you describe me are easily translated in: lack of regulation by the authorities. probably you need better fiscalization services too, in order to control that kind of work problems. every european country faces similar problems to that ones... and i only see the UK blaming it on the immigrants. the uk may be the country with the biggest number of immigrants nowadays, but is one of the countries that benefits the most with the union. tbh you are only in the union to get easier access to the markets and sell your products, because you were never in the spirit of this Union, since the beginning. and yes, sometimes you are not allowed to say no to certain things, if you wanna be a part of something. We don't really export anything. The eu forces us to import billions of pounds worth of goods we could easily produce but don't due to eu regs. In an ideal world immigration wouldnt be a problem. It's just that it's on the inside, not immigrants. We have probably half of the workers(if not more) employed on minimum wage to avoid taxes, even if they get payed much more. We also have a certain group of people that lives only on welfare and refuses to integrate to society. It's the same problem. It's just that we don't have someone to blame for it. What I am trying to tell you is that these issues should be dealt with reforms and laws on the inside.There are a lot of other things that can be done(even on EU scale) before you say "**** the freedom of movement". There are plenty of benefits in the EU. And of course they come with some disadvantages. If your nation and politicians think they're more than the positive stuff nobody's holding you in the EU against your will, the door is open for you to leave if you want to. All I'm saying is that I don't think in a union of 28 countries that singed the rules of it, all 27 should alter one of the fundamental laws to suite the needs on 1.
